Top 10 Movies Ripe for Broadway Adaptations

repoman

I truly love musicals, but even I have my limits. And I’m someone who loves Xanadu with a genuine sort of love, not referential hipster irony. Everything about that musical is perfect to me: Olivia Newton-John’s hair and costumes. Sonny’s terrible delivery. The ELO/ ONJ soundtrack (featuring Gene Kelly and The Tubes!). Best of all? Roller skates!

I even liked Starlight Express (shut up) because, hey, roller skates and I was 12.

I Only Care About Sci-Fi Royal Weddings

ming-dale-wedding-plate

Contrary to what Barbara Walters says, my sweet spot as a female audience member has nothing to do with Cinderella stories or fairytale weddings (and is it really a Cinderella-esqe fairytale wedding if no one is getting their eyes pecked out by birds or dancing in red hot iron slippers till they’re dead?). But, I can get behind these royal weddings and wouldn’t mind having some of these commemorative plates on my wall.

Missile Command, The Movie: AYFKM?

Despite a litany of craptaculars from Mario to Tomb Raider and the fact that this game has no back story, someone over at Fox has actually greenlit the production of … a Missile Command movie. By the way, Atari seems to be the publisher/developer du jour because they have had two other games picked up in the last two years, Asteroids and Rollercoaster Tycoon. Thankfully, neither of them have made it to the silver screen … yet.

Pink Raygun’s Independence Day Spectacular

By Lisa Fary – To me, July 4th isn’t just about patriotism and pride in the United States – it’s about freedom. Freedom to live the way I want to live, believe what I want to believe. America doesn’t hold a patent on freedom, and Americans aren’t the only ones who have fought wars and died for the idea. (send your hate mail to lisa@pinkraygun.com or post a comment below. Emails will be posted for all to see). So today, I’m not going to talk about the sci-fi moments that make me proud to be an American. Instead, we’ll look at sci-fi that celebrates freedom – having it and fighting for it – for all people.

Interview: Gillian Horvath – Behind the Scenes on Flash Gordon

At the beginning, mine was a love-hate relationship with the SciFi Channel’s Flash Gordon. Not as dramatic as my love-hate relationship with Lost, but we had our ups and downs. 2007 was the year I got beat up by TV. There was so much to watch, much of which only made me angry. I fell in love with a pie maker, broke up with Jack Shepherd and then had the best new show – Journeyman – killed off too soon (damn you, NBC!). The WGA [...]
