Comics Interview: Oliver Mertz and Mike Isenberg

front-cover-trim-example-662x1024

One of my biggest frustrations as a writer is that I can’t draw. There are stories in my head that just can’t come out the way I want because, when that pencil goes to task, it just comes out a mess.

Naturally, I’m very interested to know how Oliver Mertz and Mike Isenberg, creators and writers on the indie comic First Law of Mad Science went about getting their ideas drawn and produced. Here, Oliver and Mike talk about finding an artist, getting First Law of Mad Science into production, and karaoke.

Merlin Q and A: Bringing Legends to Life

Phone Interview – Bradley James and Colin Morgan of Merlin

When my friend in Alaska first told me about this new show she was watching called Merlin, I said no, I wasn’t interested. If I wanted to watch an old English legend being re-created once again, then my heart already belonged to the wonderful Showtime version of the legend of Robin Hood called Robin of Sherwood.

Fact or Faked: Q & A with Ben Hansen and Jael de Pardo

ben-hansen

By The Sisters Sardonic – One of the Sisters’ favorite shows came back to us recently and oh, how we have missed it. Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files premiered after a brief hiatus. This is the show that brought us one of our most freaked-out, what-was-that moments. They introduced us to what we lovingly and terrifyingly refer to as “the clothespin monster,” a bizarre bipedal creature that could not be identified. Look up the episode “Unwanted Visitors/Strange Sightings” and prepare to be freaked. If it doesn’t freak you out, well, FRIENDSHIP OVER.

Scare Tactics: Interview with Creator Scott Hallock

scare-tactics

By The Sisters Sardonic – Why do we love to be scared? Why do we find it so fun to scare others? Maybe it’s the sudden adrenaline rush, or the desire to see a totally authentic, uninhibited reaction, from someone. Whatever the reason, fear can be good clean fun and the creative team behind the Syfy TV show Scare Tactics has it figured out. For four seasons, viewers have been tuning in to watch the madness and mayhem that Scott Hallock and Kevin Healey have produced, deliberately scaring people out of their wits with monsters, aliens and the scariest monsters of all: people.

Synapse: A Free Character-Driven RPG

nicholas-kay-synapse

RPG-creator Greg Christopher argues that RPGs for consoles are limited because you are still restricted by someone else’s world, thereby limiting your choices. Your characters as well as the world around them can only evolve and change according to the settings prescribed by the person who designed that game. Greg saw this limitation and created Synapse, which allows players “to take all the ideas that you have about how you wish your console games would actually work, and actually play them.”

My First Time: A Couple’s Con

NYCC-green-arrow

DR Hanson – Will they like me, these geeks and gamers? Will I fit in with my Flash T-Shirt I bought at Urban Outfitters or will I be eyed curiously as a poser who bought his Flash T-Shirt at Urban Outfitters? I rest upon the knowledge that I’m well versed in much of comic lore, following the X-Men since I was 8, and if all else fails, I know my strapping partner will defend my right to be there as a veteran Con goer himself. I almost hope for an altercation involving a pencil so I could watch Jamison masterfully deflect the number two weapon with the reflexes of Matt Murdock.

The Mysterious Case of Sasha Roiz

sasha-roiz-1

From the notes of Detective Teresa A. Jusino – It would’ve been easy to just let this go as just another case of re-fried brain, but the moment I looked at his face, even with the holoband on and under a year’s worth of facial hair, I recognized him. Just like that, the case became personal, and I had to find out what was at the bottom of it. The victim’s name is Sasha Roiz. And I knew him.

Kris Williams: Ghost Hunter

kris-williams

Kris Williams is one tough chick. This Massachusetts native has done it all from construction to art to modeling. She added “awesome paranormal investigator” to that list in 2007 when she joined the cast of Ghost Hunters. In a television genre dominated by men, Kris has stood out by defying the traditional role of the terrified girl: Kris runs toward the things that go bump in the night, not away from them. On her website, Kris says, “There’s a lot more to me than nightvision or the butt shots the camera dudes have a habit of taking.” In this interview, she shows just how much more there is.

“Ordinary” is Just Silly… and That’s Okay

by Josh Weiss-Roessler I look at my hastily scrawled screening notes for the pilot and it doesn’t seem like I much liked it. “Too straightforward.” “Too earnest.” “VO… ehh.” “Overexplaining…” But a funny thing happened as the show continued and my notes trailed off: I started laughing. My final note, in fact, is “Weeds dude [...]
