Ten Points about BSG: The Ties That Bind

By Rhea Dee

1. I hate to say it, but the last two episodes of beloved BSG seemed to be dragging their feet. I didn’t feel like anything was happening, that is, anything substantial. Could it have been the (then) impending strike, I wonder? Or are the writers buckling under the pressure of final season glory? Perhaps it’s just the way they’ve laid out the season, slow in the beginning, but it’ll all connect in the end (which in that case…have we learned nothing from Lost Season 3?).

Cylon Says – BSG: The Ties That Bind

By Lisa Fary

Oh, Battlestar Galactica, where have all your good women gone? Seriously, I’d like to know because your “strong” women aren’t so strong anymore.

Warrior Princess 101 – Lesson 15: Messing with History, pt 1

with Professor of Fangeekonomics, Ms. Melissa Voelker

Reference Materials for today’s class:
Xena: Warrior Princess, Episode 1.12 – Beware Greeks Bearing Gifts

Not one to have her adventures restricted by silly things like facts, Xena was known to pull a Forrest Gump on occasion and go for a stroll through actual historical events. And she didn’t do it in a way that went along with what REALLY happened, or show up at times and places that fit any kind of timeline that would be possible. While most of the myth about the Trojan War against the Greeks over the beautiful Helen is probably myth, there really was a city of Troy at one time, and it really was destroyed in 1180 BC. Later on in the series Xena has a fling with Caesar (ya, THAT Caesar) which would have taken place around 50-44 BC, which would put Xena at about 1130 years old. She certainly looked good for her age.

Battlestar Galactica 1978 – Gun on Ice Planet Zero Part 2

by Nancy Mathews

Our heroes are still sitting about to be discovered by the Cylons. All because of that damn daggit. Again I really have to question the parental wisdom of Apollo. I know “Take Your Child to Work Day” is very popular, but I don’t think they intended it for Colonial Viper Pilots on secret missions.

Ten Points about BSG: Six of One

By Rhea Dee 1. Well, as I expected, Roslin lived and Starbuck’s going to the brig. Was it surprising to me? Err, no. It’s a bit early in the season for death twists like that, isn’t it? I did like how Starbuck pointed out all the things she’s done for Roslin, all those crazy myth-y [...]

Ten Points about BSG: He That Believeth In Me

By Rhea Dee 1. Yay, Starbuck’s back! But, wait, no one believes she’s a human, even though she checks out as biologically human. While I don’t think she’s a cylon, she’s obviously some sort of super human. I mean, she felt the path to Earth. I really hope that ability doesn’t annoy me in the [...]

Cylon Says – BSG: He That Believeth In Me

By Lisa Fary Let’s hear it for Samuel T. Anders, the ONLY hot Cylon guy. I don’t know who designed the skin jobs (perhaps that will be revealed as well), but that person clearly had an eye for the ladies. I look forward to the episode where we see Anders stepping naked out of a [...]

Battlestar Galactica 1978 – Gun on Ice Planet Zero Part 1

by Nancy Mathews Memory is a funny thing. Re-watching these old BSGs, I can’t say that I remember them well. There’s a flash here and there and the overall mythos is still clear but outside of the pilot (which I had the photo-novel for) I haven’t remembered much at all. Until now. Mostly I think [...]

Battlestar Galactica Reveals A Phenomenon of Pretension

By Lisa Fary I’ve been starving for Battlestar Galactica for the past year, so naturally I tuned in to the specials (BSG: Revealed and BSG: The Phenomenon) on the Sci Fi Channel this weekend and sucked it up from my flatscreen like a BSG vampire. That bliss lasted for about two minutes, until I heard [...]

LOST 4.7 – “Ji Yeon” by Teresa Jusino This week’s episode of Lost, “Ji Yeon”, while strange, brought the show back to good form after a couple of less-than-stellar episodes. Battlestar Galactica – The Long Patrol

By Nancy Matthews I was looking forward to this episode. After the Apollo-centric Lost Warrior I was ready for a little quality time with my sweet Starbuck. Leave it to Apollo to screw it up by hogging up screen time. No wonder he grew up to be a terrorist. Related Stuff:
