Star Trek 700: The Enemy Within

JaniceRand

The Yeoman Rand Sexual Harassment Count is officially ON. She’s harassed in the hallways anytime she goes anywhere. She got sexually assaulted by Charlie X and Bad Kirk. Janice should be issued a phaser set to kill.

What I like most about this one is the message that everyone is suppressing feelings to get along. In a way, we’re all Spock. Also, wash your damn hands.

I couldn’t help but make the following connection…loudly…while pointing at the TV machine: “HE’S A BABY Q! I DON’T KNOW WHY HIS EYES ARE SILVER, BUT HE’S A BABY Q!”

Watching this ep as a cranky school marm is way different than watching as a teenager. Also, Captain Kirk gets shirtless and Uhura freestyles a song about Spock!

That’s more like it. “The Man Trap” was infinitely more enjoyable than “The Cage”.

I appreciated that the female crew members not only got to wear pants, but also weren’t relegated to the skintight jumpsuits that passed as pants for shapely women in later years (I’m looking at you, T’Pol and Seven of Nine).

How can I call myself a Trekkie when there are over 700 episodes in existence and I’ve only seen maybe 300 of them? This must be rectified.

Smallville: Series Finale

Finale

Yep, it’s time to talk about THE SUIT. Now I realize that there was a lot of CGI magic going on with the suit, and honestly I don’t care. I’m sorry, but I loved every fake second of it.

Stargate Universe: Gauntlet

When I started reviewing this series, I came in about a quarter of the way through the second season, no prior SGU experience and only having seen a handful of SG-1 episodes. I was not impressed with what I had seen at first, but the second half of this season turned things around. It was coming into its own as good SF, and I can say without reservation I am sorry to see a show with this much potential go.

No Ordinary Future

My interest in time travel has only been one of idle curiosity. There is very little I’ve done that I regret, and some of those choices were reversible (thank you, pre-paid return envelopes). I don’t wallow in the forlorn what-could-have-been, so I don’t consider going back to change anything in my life. The thought you can go back to change elements of history also worry me, because of butterfly effect theory (and the Butterfly Effect movie, which might be one thing I would go back and undo watching…).

Please imagine right here an image of your humble narrator, teary eyed with her jaw dropped open. Then imagine her cursing the name of Lois Lane using some very choice words.

I appreciate the writing that’s gone into these last episodes. It’s been tight, with a great long term arc that doesn’t skimp on the small stuff. The sense of wonder and danger, the human element, the spaces between black and white, all of these are why I dig science fiction.

Smallville: Dominion

Alright my lovelies we are down to the final three. I don’t know about you, but I am hoping (maybe even expecting) that the last three episodes are going to be action packed. There is no more room for filler crap, and if they try to give it to us I might end up being a little miffed.

John Scalzi, the creative consultant for this series, once said that building a world two questions deep helps build sufficient rationale. Unfortunately, in this week’s episode the writers missed that bit of advice.

One down, three to go. I still haven’t hit the level of bittersweet over the whole deal yet. I have a feeling I won’t start the “grieving process” until the after the finale. With all that being said let’s get to this episode which I have been waiting to see for a bit.

Two items from the recent past come back to bite the crew of the Destiny and as I say that, I realize I’m setting myself up for some sort of relativistic pun. I’ll be damned if I can find it, but you might have better luck.

No Ordinary Family: No Ordinary Animal

I love Lucy Lawless. I was an avid viewer of Xena: Warrior Princess because I’m a sucker for bad ass brunette women (cause then I can pretend I’m one too). And no matter what role she plays, I’m able to see her as some level of cool and strong. For instance, when she smoothly asks Winnick if he’s an idiot, it’s just made me giddy.
