There are many passionate Astrid fans who have been waiting patiently for three seasons for an Astrid centric episode. This was long overdue.

I hate to say it, but the Peter-less universe’s Olivia bothers me. I was cool with her at first. I liked how dark her story got. But this whole Nina thing has made me realize that this Olivia is not nearly as smart as the reg-universe Olivia.

On Twitter, Jaskia Nicole said that Alt-Astrid saying “cool” to the fact that Peter was from another universe was a nod to Abed on Community. Nicely done, Jaskia.

I’m sick and tired of ‘Hero of the show, you must die’ “twists”. We all know Olivia isn’t going to die. Or at the very least, our Olivia isn’t going to die.

I hate to bust out The X-Files as a comparison (well not really), but this show kills The X-Files in monster-of-the-week storylines. (Fringe had already killed The X-Files in overarching stories two seasons ago.)

I was pleasantly surprised that this episode featured a female scientist (mathematician to be exact). I don’t think we’ve seen a female scientist-type on Fringe ever, and you very rarely see it on TV in general (especially a whiz mathematician!). I got really excited about that. More women on TV like that, please.

With Fringe in a permanent Friday slot, and still considering how the Season 3 finale could’ve been a Series Finale, I can’t help but wonder what’s in store for the future of Fringe. If they don’t get canceled this season, I feel like they have one more good season in them.

Well, Peter’s back. He totally pulled a Terminator and zapped into this universe naked, too.

Walter’s story when Peter still existed was sad enough, but this new timeline, where Walter is unable to save any Peter…well. Now I really can’t wait to see a Walter/Walternate showdown.

I’m still holding out for some sort of awesome team up between Olivia and Fauxlivia. They better be wielding magic swords, too.

Olivia vs. Fauxlivia: I am ready for it. I liked their confrontation at the end, how cold and tough Olivia presented herself, and how Fauxlivia just laughed it off, like: “I’m you. You don’t scare me.”

Olivia and her special abilities kind of took a backseat to Peter’s this season. Even her role in the doomsday device wasn’t presented until the very end, and that role was less about her awesome powers and more about helping Peter achieve his goal. I missed Olivia.

I love it when JJ shows do the whole time travel thing. But Fringe has the upper hand with their time travel thing: it’s in the not too distant (dystopic) future! I loved the 70’s on Lost but I cannot resist a dystopic future. (Not because I’m overly cynical or anything, but I love watching rebels in a dystopic future rise against The Man.)

Hey, let’s show a character’s humanity and emotional vulnerability by having him pray and believe in God! Like that hasn’t been done a million times over. It’s the 21st Century, people. We do not need a Judeo-Christian belief to feel united as a freaking species.

Olivia Dunham as a cartoon.
I had no idea how much I wanted to see that until it was actually happening on my screen.

Alt-Lincoln, Alt-Charlie and Alt-Olivia all live in a crumbling universe. Their boss is an evil, lying villain. Hell, Alt-Charlie still has those worms in him that he has to suppress every hour with some sort of shot! So how on earth are those three so well-adjusted?

Oh, Anna Torv. Will your acting wonders never cease? You have a marked distinction when you play Olivia and Bolivia, which makes the characters feel like their own believable entity and not just “Anna Torv with a different hair color”. Now you’ve taken on another persona: William Bell. And as usual, you make it feel completely natural, so that I don’t feel like it’s “Anna Torv with a Leonard Nimoy-y vocal inflection.”

I love happy Olivia. Olivia already got a ton of crap done when she was morose and unhappy; now that she’s happy, she’s practically Superman. Bolivia should be worried.
