I met Veronica Hoffman about three years ago…but I use the term “met” loosely. You see, I’ve never met her in person. Let it never be said that geeks are anti-social! I’ve met several people I consider friends online, and I met Vee through another friend on the wondrous (and yes, still operational despite questions to the contrary!) LiveJournal. What struck me most about her, in addition to her intelligence and writing skill, is the sheer breadth of her geeky knowledge. Like Jessica Pepper from last month, I chose Vee as this month’s Fangirl of the Month based on her breadth of geeky knowledge! From anime to J-Pop to RPGs like D&D or MMORPGs like World of Warcraft to slash about….Band of Brothers (???), Vee can wax poetic about any number of geeky pursuits, though I had to limit the number for the purposes of this interview! Without further ado, here’s Vee!

I used to be annoyed by my lack of moon based, colonial living options, but then I learned that being a lunar colonist would be a lot like camping. I hate camping. Even shopping at Eddie Bauer is too close to camping for me – I clearly have no future on the moon. Cassandra Quinn, [...]

I met Jessica at New York Comic Con, where she hosted a panel on “Geek Love: Relationships and the Modern Geek.” She, her non-geek boyfriend, and her slew of geek friends had a fun (and funny) conversation about what it means to date a geek, and how a geek can find love! Jessica seemed so well-versed in a variety of fandoms, and seemed so much the “career geek”, that she inspired a monthly column! Get to know our Fangirl of the Month for May, JESSICA PEPPER!

One of the people I was fortunate enough to meet at New York Comic Con was artist Nathan Fox, who was at the Dark Horse Comics booth signing copies of his latest project, the comic Pigeons From Hell. Here, he talks about how he got started in the business, why being called out on a lie was the best thing that ever happened to him, and why playing “tea party” is his favorite non-artistic pastime.

It’s Jeph Loeb’s fault that I wanted to be a werewolf when I was nine years old. It was the mid-1980s and Teen Wolf, written by Loeb, was my slumber party entertainment of choice. With my weird circle of friends, that also meant re-enacting scenes with werewolf prosthetics made out of double sided tape and [...]

In the pursuit of interviews, there are advantages to not being a life-long comics reader. I’m not carrying around twenty years of fandom baggage and that makes it easier to approach people. On the other hand, it’s a bit awkward when everything I know about the person I’m approaching has just been whispered to me [...]

When we first spoke to Ace Masters, publisher of Masterpiece Comics, at the 2007 Phoenix Comicon, he gave us an upbeat rundown on his books, clearly excited about the stories he was telling. At the 2008 Phoenix Con, Masters had a different story – that of an indy guy in a tough market that’s closing [...]

As a high school student, I met with my guidance counselor once, and that was to drop band class for another study hall. I’d already been accepted to FSU, but asked her to help with, you know, guidance on picking a major. She snarled and said, “I do class schedules. Just pick something you like.” [...]

I can’t help but love Blazin’ Brandy. She’s a 16th century girl with a split personality – one of which is a trigger happy big game hunter – stuck on a monster inhabited island. We first discovered Blazin’ Brandy and her creator, Stephanie Lesniak, at last year’s Phoenix Comicon. We caught up with Lesniak at [...]
