I don’t mind the term closet cosplay. I’ve never tried to pretend I made anything I’ve purchased. Some cosplayers see it negatively though. I emphasize the word some, but like with anything, negativity sticks out more than positivity.

I’m pale. Really pale. When I actually end up outdoors in the daylight, I wear lots of 50 SPF sunscreen. Therefore when I show my legs to the world, I like to cover them with hose, tights, leggings, or thigh highs. So, you’ve been invited to a theme party and costumes are encouraged. Or if it’s one of my parties, they’re probably required. You’re either excited or dreading it with a passion. Unless you are cosplaying an original character, you’re going to need reference pictures to put together your costume. You need to check out the color(s) of the costume, the way the fabric hangs, where the hemlines are, what kind of fabric is used, which way the cuff is folded, and on and on. The more details you include, the nicer the costume and the more recognizable. And admit it; it’s nice to be recognized.
