About Shawn Deena

Shawn Deena is a writer, musician, gamer and all around comic book and sci-fi nerd. As lover of films and television he has entirely useless library of knowledge that has now been increased thanks to the large volume of movies and TV shows Netflix offers on their instant play. As someone who likes to share his opinion, having a forum where he can rant incessantly about things in entertainment that bother him, make him laugh or make him want to hit himself in the face with a DVD box is a good thing. Having written about everything from Office Depot chairs to the page turning excitement of CPA guidebooks nothing pleases him more than writing about the stuff he loves and knows.

Dear George Lucas: Why Do You Hate Me?

sw

Lucas expects us to shell out almost $100 (after taxes) to buy something we already own in DVD format because of his Lucasing? “Oh it’s on Blu-Ray” That’s the default defense. And???

Videogame Flashback: Halo

halo-box

If you look back at games that are iconic to their console, Halo stands out as a game that not only made the Xbox what it is today but continues to be a big revenue earner for Microsoft. I Don’t Care About the Royal Wedding

royal-wedding-pizza

All this coverage and hoopla — it’s like events and moments created to give this thing more significance that it really has. The mere notion of a royal wedding seems absurd at this point in our history because the royal is rather meaningless. I mean when you get down to the basics of it — this is essentially a wedding of ridiculously wealthy person to a not terribly poor woman, who because of his position in the country and his riches is able to marshal a massive police force and employ a large amount of his “subjects” to cater this shindig. That’s it. Is it great that they’re getting married? Sure, it’s always nice when people find true love. Like I said, I hope they’re happy. I just don’t need a play by play of their happiness

Videogame Flashback: Classic Videogame Villians

Look me up under Eeeevil

Old videogame, the classics, had many things we loved which in essence have now made them … “classic.” Part of that love was the love/hate relationship we had withe the bosses, villains, banes of our existence when we got to the boss battles that would drive us nuts.

tormented by kim kardashian

Celebrities have lives. On any given day they probably do normal things like the rest of us. Do we really need to see their vacation photos, what they wore to the airport or what they bought while shopping? Why can’t we just let them live their lives while enjoying what they do? Is that a crazy notion? Once upon a time, it was the norm.

Toxic TV: Infecting Our Television Landscape

snooki-book

The viewing public has somehow turned into voyeurs of dysfunction. At least in the days of gladiators, the people fighting each other had some modicum of skill as barbaric as it was. This notion of watching real people being terrible to each other, it doesn’t make sense that this would be entertainment but there it is. Is there a cure for Toxic TV. At this point no. Apparently the more vile and revolting the better. All you have to do is look at the journey one recent celebrity has taken down the rabbit hole of madness to see this proven. Not only is he getting more attention than he had before, but he’s turned his dysfunction into some sort of twisted entertainment.

YouTube: The One Hit Wonder Machine

Is this a bad thing? No, not at all. It means that anyone (animal or inanimate object) can become a one hit wonder even in an over-saturated market. For all the unwilling toddlers filmed being goofy or dancing on tables, it’s embarrassing date material when they get older. Thankfully by then the memory of them hopped up on laughing gas will have long faded from the YouTube wall of fame. No longer do you need the skill-set of a film student, graphic designer or techno wizard to have a successful video. A simple iPhone video can be the difference between and everyday life and a short burst of fame that might even get you a chance to be on local or national news. There’s even now a chance to make a little cabbage from monetize a successful video.

Videogame Flashback: The Atari 2600 (1977)

During it’s tenure and even after the crash Atari kept selling units until it was finally discontinued in 1992. Not a bad run for videogame console that has left an indelible mark on gaming history and is basically the reason we have a lot of what we take for granted today in gaming.
