Dancing Hulks and Wolverines in Philly

This happened here in Philly tonight:

The Mummers Parade is one of my favorite Philly traditions because I’m drawn to anything with sequins, feathers, and choreography. Tonight, the Fancy Brigades competed, each putting on a Starlight Express-worthy dance number with some of the most elaborate, handmade costumes I’ve ever seen. There’s a lot from this year’s Fancy Brigades I want to share, but I had to get this one out right away because of dancing superheroes.

For their 2013 show, Bill McIntyre’s Shooting Stars did “Super Heroes! Super Villains! Super Thrills!” I can’t get the video to embed, so here are some stills:

It’s not the best representation of Mummers’ costumes, (there’s a shocking lack of sequins and feathers), but it’s still fun to watch! See the full number here.

Lisa Fary's earliest influences are Princess Leia, Rainbow Bright, Astronaut Barbie, and her 6th grade teacher, Ms. Palmer. She's angry that it's 2011 and she still doesn't have a hovercraft, but will accept a jetpack as consolation. That jetpack had better be pink with a rhinestone monogram.
