Prize Pack: A Book and an iPod!

I love a good dystopia.

Not that I want to live in one. Like the best sci-fi, dystopian stories are a funhouse mirror showing us all the ways we’re screwing up.  For example, The Hunger Games was an indictment of the wealthy leisure class and the reality show industrial complex, while simultaneously demonstrating the cyclical nature of poverty and exploitation of the poor (although you’d never know that from watching the movie).

There’s always another dystopian YA book on the reading list. Some are OK (Article 5). Others, not so much (The Disunited States of America). Marie Lu’s Legend and upcoming sequel, Prodigy, are on the list, too.

This particular dystopia is a re-imagining of Les Miserables and has been optioned by CBS Films.

Prodigy isn’t due in bookstores until January, but we have a prize pack for you now.

One winner will receive:

·         the NEW iPod Shuffle

·         $15 iTunes gift card

·         Copy of the first book, Legend

You’re a dystopian heroine (or hero). What’s your theme song?

Mine is “World Destruction” by Time Zone.

We’ll draw a winner at the end of this week.

Lisa Fary's earliest influences are Princess Leia, Rainbow Bright, Astronaut Barbie, and her 6th grade teacher, Ms. Palmer. She's angry that it's 2011 and she still doesn't have a hovercraft, but will accept a jetpack as consolation. That jetpack had better be pink with a rhinestone monogram.
