Lots of classic elegance and timeless drama at Milan Fashion Week for Spring 2013. It’s as if the world isn’t moving forward at all, so gowns for everybody!
Except me because I shop at the Philly AIDS Thrift and the only gown I’m getting is someone’s old bridesmaid dress, which has been deloused of the wearer’s sadness and spilled asparagus.

You know those outfits on Project Runway that Heidi, Nina, and Michael swear would be great for the office and you’re looking at the judges like “Whaaaa????” because a one-shouldered chiffon blouse and white palazzo pants may as well be showgirl attire amidst the chinos and polos in your office? You know those outfits?
This origami Prada look is like that.
But from the future.
I’ve been loving this spacey sci-fi direction that Giorgio Armani has been going in the past few seasons with his couture line. That aesthetic is finding it’s way into his ready-to-wear on a more day-to-day level.
This is reminiscent of the galaxy prints we’ve been seeing around, only more elegant.

Wicker exoskeleton. Seems like the wicker needs something light and sheer over it. Without a chiffon overlay or something, it’s straight from that episode of Gilligan’s Island where the Professor tried to upgrade Mary-Ann into a sexbot with a coconut engine.
Molton lava. She looks like she climbed out of a volcano. Only without getting incinerated.
