Rebuilding society never goes well.
Tom Mason: Action Professor would have historical examples of the heart wrenching wrenchiness of rebuilding when the old has been torn down. Examples such as the American Revolution or the Civil War.
And yes. There is that.
There are also copious examples of this in the nerd curriculum. Battlestar Galactica. Jericho (right?). The Walking Dead. I had others, but then there was this whole doomsday methane discussion and I completely lost my examples due to the stress of the coming apocalypse.
The point is, rebuilding society is pain in the ass. And much like maintaining society, no one agrees on anything. Also, guns.
Charleston is no different. Looks good on the surface with the promise of rebuilding America and $h!t, what with its American flags and hot meals and museum pieces on the walls. But, it’s only a glorified refugee camp with a fearful megalomaniac running it. People are sleeping 10 to a cubicle. No one can leave the camp to look for survivors or loved ones. Dear god, people are eating vegetables.
And it’s all run by former history professor Arthur Manchester, whose game is to stay low and hope the alien invaders overlook them forever. Which is a stupid effing plan. Even without getting all patriotic, one can see that it’s a supremely flawed plan which is neither sustainable nor realistic. Everyone gets found, eventually. And Manchester’s unarmed community is a big, fat sitting duck.
Naturally, the 2nd Mass changes all that with their rangy faces and independent minds. First, they cause a ruckus. Then, they don’t fall in line. Lastly, they inspire a military coup.
Military coups never really end well.
There is A LOT to clean up by the end of the season finale next week. What’s going to happen in Charleston? How’s Ben? What’s the Skitter Rebellion up to? Is there really a chance to hit the overlords? Is it all a trap?
OHMYGOD WILL AMERICA BE AMERICA AGAIN???????
