The couture shows are so much fun because they aren’t beholden to such concepts as “hanger appeal” and “salability”. This is where fashion becomes art.

Alexis Mabille sent down a few awesome, space princess-esque gowns:
After that wackadoo, Klingon Project Runway resort collection, Karl Lagerfeld reined it in for his fall couture collection at Chanel, sending out mostly re-interpretations of tweed. And in the middle of it was this dress:
Giambattista Valli was mostly a nightmare of aggressively floral prints and pissed off ruffles, but I love this one dress. It looks like she reached down to the forest floor, picked it up, and wrapped it around herself.
Armani Prive always does such beautiful, futurist collections. I loved everything that came down the runway, but particularly this gown:
Armani Prive also likes to send models down the runway in pairs, which is fun because it can make the models look like adult fashionista versions of the Shining Twins:

Gaultier always has the best science fiction stuff! I would expect no less from the house that designed The Fifth Element. I really like Mabille’s offerings. I think a good portion of them looked like futuristic greek goddesses. I really really really liked the dresses he put on Tian Yi and Thana Kuhnen.
