Avengers Assemble on The Runway

Disney has been doing these fashion tie-ins lately that have really fallen flat because they were so boring.

The capsule collections for Tron: Legacy and The Muppets at Opening Ceremony had great stuff to draw from, was but barely recognizable as “inspired by” those movies. Kermit-head printed Oxford shirts and neoprene dresses with a peplum were insufficient and timid. When the inspiration is awesome, I expect the fashion to be awesome.

I think they finally got it right with The Avengers and their collaboration with Romance Was Born at Australian Fashion Week.

The collection manages to be unabashedly comic-inspired without falling into cliche, irony, or mockery.

This is Romance Was Born’s interpretation of Iron Man:

And Hawkeye:

Even with the pieces that don’t overtly reference The Avengers and literal comic imagery are still clearly informed by them.

OK, this look is a little ridiculous, but the Red Hulk shorts are effing funny.
