Okay, so it’s not brand new, unless, like me, you just discovered it. Get this: An episodic show you listen to with your earballs.
Now, I won’t lie, it’s like 90% of new entertainment that isn’t about vampires is about zombies.
I know, we’re over zombies. I’m over zombies. But, like most things I say I am, it’s got its exceptions.
I’ve been over zombies since before I started playing Plants vs. Zombies. And, I was still over zombies when I started watching The Walking Dead. And, I swear I’m over zombies, even though I’ve just fallen in love with We’re Alive.
We’re Alive, is a podcast that doesn’t have a bunch of hosts chatting about their opinions, but voice actors playing out a story. It’s not just a narrated audio book, there are sound effects and everything.
The story is set up in chapters and each chapter is parsed into about fifteen minute parts. There are already eighteen and a third chapters.
Because you can download the audio files and listen to them at your leisure, We’re Alive is the perfect way to get you sic-fi fix while commuting or on your lunch break.
The voice acting could be better, but, for free, it’s excellent and over time the story is so engaging you might not even notice anymore. (Except for Pegs, who has the most annoying “I’m acting” voice ever. Especially when she’s screaming about things…)
Try it, you might like it. It can be found at zombiepodcast.com.

Hey, man! Thanks for pointin' this out! Nothin' better than audio plays, IMO. I'll listen every day until I get current. I just listened to 5 episodes. Reminds me of the the audio play on CD of Stephen King's The Mist–which is a 1000 times better than the movie. Thanks again! =)
My pleasure. I love audio books but there's just something so special about the sound effects and actual individuals doing the separate voices. I've been known to go on Amazon and buy episodes of the Weird Circle from the 40s. (My favorites are "The Vendetta" and "The House and The Brain" and "Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym") Great sci-fi in a fantastic format.
I love that it's not only a good story in a good format but also it's more relateable than the 40s.
Just discovered this show myself a few months ago, and have several of my friends just as addicted as I am. The comment about the voice acting is a bit unfair. It's not perfect all the way through, but you make it seem like it's much worse than it really is.
That being said, it's actually a running joke in the "We're Alive" fan community that people hate Pegs. Oh, and on the note of the sound effects, they actually record all the SFX on a foley stage, so it really feels like a big budget production. Here's an awesome 3:00 mini-documentary about how they make the show:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nj3OswgPeBo” rel=”nofollow”>;http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nj3OswgPeBo
I've been hooked on the show more recently as well and honestly the voice acting is pretty decent. I don't care how over zombies anyone is, this is different and very well put together and I hope they continue and possibly turn it into something more.. such as an animated version?? If you haven't checked it out and you are even just a step up from a zombie you love this!
I just discovered this podcast a few days ago and was instantly hooked. I have to respectfully disagree about the voice acting. It’s some of the best I’ve heard in a radio drama. Most movies have even more of an “I’m acting” sound to me when I’m not watching (and hence distracted by) the visuals.
I have to admit, when I wrote this, I was still in season 1 and the voice acting since then has gotten better. Everyone's.
Also, I may just hate the Pegs character (in an invested in the show way) so much that I hate everything about her. Maybe, if it was on TV, I'd hate her face. But I do feel like Datu's and Riely's accents sound faked.
Scratch, Saul, Burt, Angel, The Maller Boss, Kelly, and Kalani are all really well done to me.
Hi – you'd never hate Pegs…no one can hate her once they meet her…well Elisa anyway. She's too darn nice and likeable. And Datu's and Riley's accents are real. Claire is from France (English is her second language) and Jay is Phillipino. He just stresses the accent a little more for the show. Anyway, I'm glad you like the show, we love all love working on it and we love our fans!

I agree, Elisa is super nice, it was fun to interview her! Even over email. Pegs actually grew on me at the colony.
Thank you for posting about this or otherwise I probably would never have found it. I love it and it's THE perfect distraction from my boring commutes (plus, I'm somehow more relaxed arriving at work after listening to this, which probably isn't such a good sign…)
Already got three of my friends hooked on this as well muwahaha!
