By Sonia Aurora – This is going to be seem like an unconnected rant, but I promise you it isn’t: I am not a fan of Twilight, the book series, and the film series even less so. I got through the first book and knew halfway I wouldn’t bother, because it was intended for the version of myself at 15 that might have, maybe enjoyed it (and in a lot of ways I’m not so sure about that). The final straw for this phenomenon was when a 30-something friend told me she realized she didn’t love her husband in the way that Bella and Edward love each other. Flabbergasted, I asked her how she expected to love her husband like a sixteen year old loves a vampire. My indifference from then on turned into mild hatred.

A review copy of The Barsoom Project arrived from Tor Books the other day. There was no info included in the envelope, so I assumed it was something new from Larry Niven and started reading. A few hours later, John asked my thoughts on it.
“Maybe it would’ve been edgy in 1988 or 1990,” I said. “But in 2010 it feels dated, like the writers never left the 1980s.”

Supernatural – Family Matters
By Sylvia Bond – Naturally the title of this episode is a play on words, and you can decide that it means that either the ep is about issues that are of a concern to a particular family, or that, quite simply, that family is important. I’m going to go with the latter meaning even though, as many can attest to, sometimes families are your worst nightmare. Still, families represent a sense of home, which is where, when you go there and knock on the metaphorical door, they have to let you in. Which, to my endless pleasure, is a big chunk of what this ep is about.
