Um… Will is a genius, too. That's part of why Magnus recruited him. And he worked as a forensic psychologist for "The Agency" and the police for several years before that, so he's pretty skilled at figuring out the whole cause-and-effect thing.

This is a thing that happens over and over on tv shows, and it drives me nuts. There are so many tendons and small blood vessels in your hand. Slicing across your palm in the (admittedly dramatic) way people do on tv would sever at least some of them, which would impair dexterity and probably cause loss of sensation or paralysis if you hit the wrong part. I could let it go if Tesla still had his vampire healing powers, but he's mostly mortal now. He really ought to know better.
In the beginning of the show Will was a genius. They dumbed him down so much since the first season, the description no longer applies.
