The Vampire Diaries:Masquerade

vampire-dairies-masquerade

By Dawn Del Sontro – I started out my experience with The Vampire Diaries at the series premiere. That lasted about a third of the year before I lost interest and wandered away on to better things. Like washing my hair or reading the back of a shampoo bottle. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; love between a teenager and a vampire just doesn’t work for me unless we are talking Buffy and Angel. Even those two knew when it end it before it got stupid.

Horrible Horror: Devour

devour

By Melissa Voelker – Sometimes I choose to watch a movie because it was universally praised or panned by critics or it has been recommended by friends and family. Sometimes I watch because the DVD box art is attention grabbing (or shiny, sometimes all it takes is for it to be shiny). Sometimes I watch because it’s the only thing on television in the middle of the night when I can’t sleep and I’m too lazy to do something useful. And sometimes I choose to watch a movie because I’m female and I like to look at pretty things and Jensen Ackles counts rather high up on the list of pretty things. Which is how I came to watch Devour, starring Jensen Ackles and Shannyn Sossoman and Dominique Swain.

So Long, Caprica

sasha-roiz2

The structure of Colonial society was far more interesting than the Cylon bits or the religious bits and could have led to deeply thought-provoking discussions. Caprica was a missed opportunity to do some hard-hitting science fiction addressing the multitude of problems on Earth (terrorism, which has been well represented in the show, is not the only problem we have; nor is it the biggest).

I procrastinate. I embrace it, deal with it, and almost always get by with it. I’ve spent a few late nights and early mornings before conventions finishing props or even whole costumes. So if you haven’t figured our your Halloween costume yet, it’s okay. You still have two whole days, or at least all of [...]

Caprica: False Labor

So, I’m sitting there, trying to watch Caprica, and all I can smell is cat pee. I think the that put a significant damper on my Caprica viewing experience. The other, non-peeing cat, had no such problems as she sat calmly on the ottoman, watching the entire show. I’ve only ever seen her do this with the Wesminster Dog Show.

It’s basically Scarecrow spray from Batman. It makes the guard go crazy on a bad shroom trip where everything is going to eat your face off. We’ve all been there.

In some part of the world, October is probably swimsuit season. Even if it’s not, I couldn’t help but share these geek themed bathing suits with you now. I don’t typically look twice at these because despite living near the Pacific ocean, I don’t put a toe in it. There is death in the ocean [...]

Smallville: Isis

By Aden Penn – Seeing the preview for “Isis” worried me a little bit, because I was worried this was going to be a cheesy and over the top episode. It had it’s eye rolling moments, but to be honest there was a lot in there that was kind of important, and really enjoyable.

A Pair of Paranormal: States That Is

paranormal-state

By The Sisters Sardonic – For those who love the paranormal, each new TV season simply astounds with the plethora (thank you The Three Amigos for teaching us that word) of ghost-oriented shows available. Just a few short years ago, one was lucky to find dramatized narratives of ghost stories during the Halloween season, let alone the rest of the year. Now, thanks to the weird and bizarre world we live in, one has a choice of numerous shows not just telling boring stories, but delivering real-life ghost action. Last Sunday night was the premiere of fresh episodes of Paranormal State, back-to-back episodes of haunt-y goodness. So, we Sisters settled in with our review supplies (chocolate truffles, a legal pad, and chocolate truffles) and prepared to be scared.

Sex and the Single Geek Girl: NYCC Speed Dating!

geek-girl-in-green

As promised, I’m reporting back about speed-dating at New York Comic Con! Sadly, this account isn’t going to be as first-person as I’d hoped. I didn’t pre-register, and when I went to register on-site, I was told I didn’t have to, because there were so many guys and not enough girls. Great! When I got back, though, the situation had changed drastically. The event had been given a smaller room – to “create demand” according to what Ryan, the guy running the event, was told by NYCC. So now, I (along with five other women) had to compete for one of two remaining women’s spots.
