Comics: Fraggle Rock Preview

Even though Archaia’s Fraggle Rock comic isn’t aimed toward me, I’m thrilled to see it. It was my absolute favorite show as a kid – I wrote my first poems while wearing one of my Dad’s giant sweaters, hair disheveled, pretending I was Mokey.

I also wanted nothing more than a wise old trash heap in the back yard. Mom and Dad, however, had a problem with that plan.

In comic book form, the Fraggles lose a bit of their luster and squishiness, but their personalities are in tact and they still engaging enough for kids who like reading.

Fraggle Rock Vol. 1 (hardcover) goes on sale in comic shops September 1st and will arrive in bookstores on September 14th.  Preview pages are below.

Lisa Fary's earliest influences are Princess Leia, Rainbow Bright, Astronaut Barbie, and her 6th grade teacher, Ms. Palmer. She's angry that it's 2011 and she still doesn't have a hovercraft, but will accept a jetpack as consolation. That jetpack had better be pink with a rhinestone monogram.
