I’ve been having a bit of an existential crisis of geek lately. My geek-out response has been subdued, to say the least: Wonder Woman’s new costume, the casting of Kevin Bacon as an X-Men villain, seeing Ryan Reynolds all dolled up as the Green Lantern. . . these are all things that, normally, I would have gushed over at least a little and they garnered no response from me.

By WorldofHiglet – Season 4 takes a little break this week because Felicia Day and company have treated us to a brand-spanking new music video (which doesn’t feature spanking this time), released on the third anniversary of Episode 1 of Season 1 being uploaded to YouTube.

I love puzzles, love finding the answer. Adding a vampire twist to it in The Further Adventures of Sherlock Holmes: Seance for Vampire seemed like it would only add to the enjoyment. However, it turned out the real mystery wasn’t the location of vampire treasure, but rather why I was so bored by this book.

by Josh Weiss-Roessler I look at my hastily scrawled screening notes for the pilot and it doesn’t seem like I much liked it. “Too straightforward.” “Too earnest.” “VO… ehh.” “Overexplaining…” But a funny thing happened as the show continued and my notes trailed off: I started laughing. My final note, in fact, is “Weeds dude [...]

by Josh Weiss-Roessler Saturday I had the chance to check out the Comic-Con screening and incredibly abbreviated panel for The Event, the newest attempt to create a Lost-like mythology show that actually manages to attract viewers in a Lost-like way as well. Judging from the pilot and how the writers said they want to handle [...]

by Amy Ratcliffe I’m sure you don’t need me to tell you this, but San Diego Comic-Con just ended this Sunday. Though it’s not the costume craziness that I’ve heard Dragon*Con is, it’s big. I took multiple costumes to a convention for the first time. It’s hard to keep track of all the costume pieces [...]

Welcome back, Tara. We’ve missed you and your alert, quick witted, ass kicking ways. I can’t tell you how pleased I am that you didn’t get on the same crazy train as numerous other women in genre television. In fact, I’ve been inspired to write a haiku for you.

by Juliana Weiss-Roessler Nerd on a mission. I’m pretty sure that’s the best phrase to describe me this morning, speed-walking to the convention center wearing my Buffy backpack with my Comic-Con badge swinging. It was just after 9 am, and I was intent on getting in for the Supernatural panel at 11:15 am. I wasn’t [...]

by Juliana Weiss-Roessler Today was the least stressful day of Comic-Con. There were no panels on the schedule that I was dying to see, so instead I walked the floor and sat through the premiere of two pilots: The Event and No Ordinary Family, which my husband will be posting reviews of soon. Here’s my [...]

by Juliana Weiss-Roessler After getting up at 5 am yesterday, I decided to let myself sleep in this morning — that was a mistake. By the time I got to the Ballroom 20 line, it was already winding its way around the building. I resigned myself to the fact that I would miss the first [...]

by Juliana Weiss-Roessler I am convinced that this is going to be the best Comic-Con ever. Why? Let’s count the reasons. 1) I am attending 4 days for the first time. 2) I have a room with a spectacular view just a shorting walking distance from the con. 3) I have a professional pass for [...]

By WorldofHiglet – In the end, it is all about the people. The people who create The Guild, and the people who support the people who create The Guild. The fans, online and in person, played their part by following and participating and including each other. The cast and crew played their part by providing the focus of the community and a reason to be together. In a year The Guild had gone from being self-funded to the first independent webseries funded and distributed via the Xbox Live/Zune network.

By WorldofHiglet – In Part 1 of this chapter from the yet-unpublished “From Cheetos to Stripper Bus: The Ultimate Fan Guide to how Felicia Day build The Guild Level By Level”, The Guild prepared for SDCC and so did the fans – the CCGuildies who were attending and the ‘Left Behind’ that weren’t. After a huge response to signings and hints of more excitement to come, all eyes were on Room 5AB in preparation for The Guild Panel….

After last week’s techno-pyric shenanigans Codex is computer-less but not camera-less. Using ingenuity not always obvious, she cams without the web and is in manic-mode. Deluding herself about Fawkes isn’t enough so she is now convinced that the whole Guild is mad at her because Bladezz was the first to respond to her text about her borked computer. The whole being off-line business had obviously tipped her nearer to the edge than usual.

By WorldofHiglet – In August last year I wrote a proposal for a non-fiction book called: “From Cheetos to Stripper Bus: The Ultimate Fan Guide to how Felicia Day built The Guild Empire Level by Level.” The proposal was well written and clear, and I had a great platform. I know that because several agents made those comments while simultaneously telling me that there simply wasn’t a market for it – it was too niche. Which is, of course, exactly what TV execs told Felicia when she pitched The Guild as a sitcom. Ironic’d.
