In what was probably the most bizarre moment of Elena Kagan’s confirmation hearing, she was asked to weigh in on the pressing issue of Edward vs. Jacob.
The news reports say that Kagan smiled and laughed at the line of questions, but it looked more like a grimace. Observe:
As absurd as it was, I feel like I can’t really get to harsh with Senator Amy Klobuchar – she hosted a teenage Twihard slumber party last night and is sitting through the tedium of a confirmation hearing all day today. Of course she’s delirious.

Her earliest influences are Princess Leia, Rainbow Bright, Astronaut Barbie, and her 6th grade teacher, Ms. Palmer. She’s angry that it’s 2010 and she still doesn’t have a hovercraft, but will accept a jetpack as consolation. That jetpack had better be pink with a rhinestone monogram.

I have to second that. It did look like a grimace.
I don't think she was very happy about that.
Ugh. I'm all for our politicians being genre fans (even if it is Twilight), but that really isn't the time or place for it. The U.S. Supreme Court is one of the most powerful entities in our government, particularly with regard to domestic policy. I'm glad Kagan was able to laugh it off, because I really doubt angsty vampires will have any bearing on the cases she's going to face during her lengthy term on the bench.
She was definitely not particularly happy. That seemed really random. However, "can't comment?" Aw, hell. This is the most fun question you'll have all day! Make something up!
