Lost: The Last Recruit

This was the first time in years that I’ve watched Lost at its regular broadcast time, complete with commercials. Usually, I let the DVR record for fifteen or twenty minutes, then start, catching up to the show by 9:52 PM or so. I don’t quite remember why we chose to watch it on live TV tonight, but damn that was a lot of commercials.

Things were dovetailing in the altverse. Jack met his half-sister! Sayid got busted by Sawyer and the Sixth Sense guy! Jin, Sun, Locke and Jack were all at the same hospital at the same time! Things were finally happening!

And somehow nothing happened. Maybe the forward motion on this ep was like watching a plant grow: you know it’s happening even though you can’t see it.

On the island, the situation isn’t terribly different. People shuffle from one side to the other, engaging in good old fashioned double crossing and bomb flinging.

Other Lost thoughts:

  • Look at Jack, being all considerate to Hurley, going with the flow, not trying to take over Sawyer’s plan. I was kinda proud of him for not trying to save everyone on the boat and allowing them to choose their own paths. Old Jack would have fought Sawyer and commandeered the boat to what he thought was right. I like this new Jack.
  • And now NotLocke has him. Wait. What? A guy can get a NotLocke infection just by talking to him?
  • I keep waiting for Juliet to show up in the altverse and open Sawyer’s eyes to the truth with the power of her love. But, the only one who keeps showing up for him is Kate. NO! KATE IS NOT HIS TRUE LOVE GIRL!!!
  • I’m sure the actress playing Juliet could spare some time from fighting the liberal, commie, universal health care providing, clean energy loving alien tyrants on V long enough to do one effing scene.
  • “John Locke wasn’t a believer. He was a sucker.”
  • Sun and Jin finally reunited on Hydra Island and the power of love fixed her brain injury.
  • I miss Mr. Eko. Just saying.

There’s not a lot to say about this episode; it was sort of like watching someone else play chess. Not that I have a problem with chess; I enjoy playing the game. But, it’s not really a spectator sort of thing, you know? At least Sawyer got good and wet. That’s something.

She’s angry that it’s 2010 and she still doesn’t have a hovercraft, but will accept a jetpack as consolation. That jetpack had better be pink with a rhinestone monogram.
