Everything M. Night Shyamalan has done since Unbreakable has sucked. Could The Last Airbender break that streak? Video after the jump.
UGO got the Superbowl ad for Airbender. Have a look:
What do you think?
Lisa Fary is a graduate of the creative writing program at Florida State University and holds an advanced degree in Special Education. Her earliest influences are Princess Leia, Rainbow Bright, Astronaut Barbie, and her 6th grade teacher, Ms. Palmer. She’s angry that it’s almost 2010 and she still doesn’t have a hovercraft, but will accept a jetpack as consolation. That jetpack had better be pink with a rhinestone monogram.

I'm still not even sure if I will go see the movie. They lost me at the casting decisions.

They've done a pretty decent job at recreating certain aspects of the look of the show but I can't bring myself to contribute to its box office takings. The only thing keeping it from being a full blown Yellowface production is that they haven't gone so far as taping the actors' eyelids.
I'm not familiar with the show, so my first thought was, "Huh. Tiny ninja." I might be tempted to see it. At the least, it looks like a decent popcorn flick.
Then again, it sounds like there are some casting issues…? Guess I'll have to do some more reading before I decide.
Tiny ninja. Heh.
Long story short, a cartoon in which heroic East Asian and Inuit kids liberate oppressed East Asians from their East Asian oppressors has been adapted into a live action movie where heroic white kids (in funny Asian and Inuit costumes) liberate oppressed miscellaneous minorities from their brown skinned oppressors.
