In a few short days the new series from Syfy, Caprica, will burst onto our screens. Here we continue the Caprica Countdown, packed full of must-have* information about the series. On Release Day, Jan 22th, you can read my report from the Caprica set as you wait anxiously for 9 PM Eastern Time. And don’t forget the PinkRaygun/Caprica give away Haiku Challenge.
Eleven: a Parallel Universe?
(Or possibly the number of times I got lost in Vancouver trying to get to the Caprica Panel)
Eleven was the number I had the most problem with for this countdown. In the end I resorted to sending a tweet to @BambolaBambina, the twitter account of Alessandra Torresani, asking for help. She replied with her usual wit:
Given what I found out yesterday, this is amazingly prescient of Ms. Torresani. According france24.com a new sexbot has been unveiled by truecompanion.com:
“She can’t vacuum, she can’t cook but she can do almost anything else if you know what I mean.”
And the inspiration for this? The creator’s friend was killed in the 11th September 2001 terrorist attacks:
“Hines said. ‘I promised myself I would create a program to store his personality, and that became the foundation for Roxxxy True Companion.’”
As I put on my blog yesterday:
“On Caprica a grieving father created a mechanical device to store the personality of his child who was killed in a terrorist attack, that goes on to become the beginning of the end of Caprica.
On Earth a grieving friend created a mechanical device to store the personality of his friend who was killed in a terrorist attack, that goes on to become…a sex slave?”
Parallel Universes indeed…
* The “must-have” nature of this information is not guaranteed.
WorldofHiglet is the online persona of writer Mary R. Higgins, a born-again geek reclaiming her heritage bit by bit. A youth filled with sci-fi, horror and adventure fare (TV, films, computer games and books) was crushed by years of office grind. Buffy brought her back into the fold after years of denial. Discovering Firefly sealed the deal. Now she geeks fulltime on her blog ‘the last geek bus home’ and her first novel ‘Turning left at Albuquerque” is currently looking for a home in publishing-land.
