2009 sucked. This is always my least favorite post of the year. 2009 has been particularly bad with so many people who’ve been part of my life for as long as I can remember passing on.

By Lisa Fary – In the wake of the Phantom Menace fiasco of 1999, George Lucas insisted that his movie was for children. I now have scientific evidence that it’s certainly NOT for kids (It’s scientific because I followed the steps of the scientific method while experimenting on my little cousins. Wheee! I’m a mad scientist!).

By Sonia Aurora – Ask and ye shall receive: Echo (and Eliza) finally begin to demonstrate her specialness without cramming it down our throats. But, of course, this comes now, after the ax has fallen. Two of the most rounded, mystery answering and deepening episodes air with only a handful left ever for the story to finish. Bleh. Why does the Joss Whedon genius finally start to kick in now??? But, alas, I’ll just have to enjoy while the getting’s good.

By Teresa Jusino – Doctor Who and Christmas go together like marmite and cheese. Or marmite and jam. Or whatever the hell English people eat marmite with. The point is, they go together well. Since new Doctor Who started in 2005, there’s been a Christmas special following each season, a standalone adventure with the Doctor that usually finds some alien or other invading Earth on Christmas with the Doctor there to save the day. Usually, US fans of the show have to wait months after these specials have already aired in the UK (or hours until they can sneakily download the episodes from teh intarwebz).

Traditionally, Pink Raygun has done a yearly list of the top one hundred fictional femmes in genre film in television. Since we’ve started, developing the list has become problematic in a few ways. So, the list has evolved out of necessity. What was the list of one hundred is now two lists of fifty: the 2009ers and the All-Timers.

By Lisa Fary – I’m not proud to say that, as a child, I was afraid of plants. Not all plants, just plants that were bigger than me (considering I’m a runty thing, that meant most plants).

By Lisa Fary – I wasn’t going to do a worst movies list until seeing Avatar on Saturday. Walking home from the theater (in a blizzard), my mind wandered to all the movies from the past ten years that were horrifically bad.

By Lisa Fary – Back in 2000, I dated Chad, Former Male Model. Chad was good looking; I mean really good looking, like young Alec Baldwin good looking, like get seated immediately at a trendy restaurant good looking. He was also shallow, vapid, and humorless. If Chad were a movie, he’d be Avatar.

By Lisa Fary – Yesterday, John commented that part one of my “best of” list was. . . well. . . odd. Things are about to get weirder. Here is part two, number 25 through number 1.

By Lisa Fary – I never feel the need to rank the best movies of a year, but after a chunk of time like a decade, it feels like necessary housekeeping. Look back, determine what was awesome and what was awful, box it up, label it, and turn around to face the next decade. This list was a surprise even to me. I started writing down the expected titles, only to find myself left cold, thinking, “That was a great spectacle, but. . . ” or “Yeah, it was good, but it wasn’t one of the best.” So, here is part one of the list, numbers 50 -26.

By Sonia Aurora – Fox, in it’s infinite wisdom, has decided to burn off the remaining episodes of Dollhouse by going the 24 route and airing 2 hour blocks; i.e., 2 episodes in a row. While there is something to be said for getting more answers more quickly, it’s maddening to also know that a network could not only not stick to keeping a show, but also that it wants to usher it out as quickly as possible, like a guest that’s worn out it’s welcome. For all the hemming and hawing I’ve felt with this show, I still believe it deserves a level of send-off dignity. But, then again, the Powers that Be hardly know the definition of that word. (Yes, Powers, still bitter about Pushing Daisies….)

By Rhea Dee – Well, Mr. Detached Head is back. And he’s digging into crazy people’s brains and taking out a small piece of their brain, which then makes them un-crazy. And why is Mr. Detached Head doing all this? Because those pieces of brain that he’s taking out of other people’s brains were once part of Walter’s brain. And if you connect those bits of brains with Walter’s brain Mr. Detached Head gets even more ahead of Team Fringe. That’s a lot of brains.

By Sonia Aurora – After watching “Belonging”, weeks ago, even though I felt great in the watching of it, when I sat down to write my review, I couldn’t do it. I had a hard time mustering up the words to gush, because it felt pretty fake. But then 2 new episodes aired last Friday and I realized I ought to stick it out til the end. It wouldn’t be fair not to at least see it through since I’d invested so much time already. Because I’d wanted to love it, because at times I did, because I did want to like it and spend a few years with it. To do this for Joss, for the newly unemployed Dichen Lachman and Enver Gjokaj.

By Jenn Kim – Friday’s Q & A conference call with Zachary Levi and Chuck co-creators and executive producers Josh Schwartz and Chris Fedak was pretty damn delightful, and I didn’t even get the chance to ask if I could have Zachary Levi’s babies. They were all warm, gracious, and funny, and indulged the different callers by extensively answering questions about the show and what to expect with the new season. Some highlights: Josh Schwartz and Chris Fedak explained what it was like to have the show come back from the brink of death, while Zachary Levi spoke considerably about his experiences as a first-time director, as well as dealing with the wretched task of making out with his beautiful female co-stars. And now, the complete transcript of the call.

By Lisa Fary – I gave up on Dollhouse early in the second season after faithfully watching for it’s entire flawed first season. I want to be impressed; I don’t like hating on stuff. But, Dollhouse is so. . . meh. However, I picked it back up now that’s it’s almost over and am still not terribly impressed. (“Not impressed” is an understatement – I was holding my head muttering, “Get the camera off Echo and Helo! Put it on someone else!”) It’s enough to make me question my faith in Joss Whedon.

By Wolfen Moondaughter – I was broken-hearted when Disney announced back in 2004 that they were closing their 2-D animation department, and The Princess and the Frog is a more-than-worthy return for them to that field! It’s well animated, features wonderfully complex characters, and carries some strong content on ethics.
