I was lucky enough to talk to Sean Becker, Emmy Award-winning Director of The Guild Seasons 2 and 3, last week. I’ve been reviewing Season 3 of the award-winning webseries, The Guild, here on PinkRaygun. On Tuesday the Season 3 finale will be posted, which is not to be missed!

During the interview we covered a lot of ground – so much that I’ve had to chop down the interview into three parts.
Interview Part 1
I introduce Sean incorrectly (duh! He Directed Seasons 2 and 3! I know that, I have always known that and I had it written down, too…)
The video features:
- A potted history of Sean
- Updates about Comedy Gumbo
- What collaboration with Jeff Lewis is in the pipeline
- How Sean became involved with The Guild (question from May-Gun)
- How the Con-Quest videos came about (question from JK)
Interview Part 2
The video features:
- Who Sean’s personal heroes are and what 3 questions Sean would ask Quentin Tarantino (questions from Edgar)
- How the music for The Guild is developed (question from Dani)
- What the stages of editing for The Guild are
- Advice for novice web video producers (question from Alan)
- How many episodes there are in Season 3 (question from Osiroman)
- What Sean’s position is on the subject of Unicorns and what are the most challenging scenes to direct and edit (questions from Chris S)
- Discussion about the Zaboo and Riley scenes and also the Codex and Riley surprise scene.
- The impending plague of Guild Deficiency Syndrome about to descend on fans and how The Guild comic book will help
Interview Part 3
The video features:
- How Sean approaches Directing and Editing
- Sean’s plans for the future (Season 4 of The Guild???)
- Can Unicow (Payman Benz) smile?
- The Guild at the Streamys Awards
- Sean and his Emmy
The bits I had to leave out included:
- Sean thinks Jeff Lewis’ film “For Christ’s Sake” is hilarious and that anyone who has only seen Jeff as Vork is in for a surprise.
- He never went to any of his ‘Radio Production’ lectures at college
- When he doesn’t understand things he uses the Urban Dictionary
- He is the ‘Mr Wiggly of The Guild set’ because he has never played World Of Warcraft
- Other things never to be revealed!
A huge thank-you to Sean – it was a lot of fun talking to you!
More interviews from “The Guild” cast and crew to come.
Next week I’ll post my interview with Jenni Powell (Senior Production Assistant). I am also interviewing Kim Evey (Producer), Robin Thorsen (who plays Clara) and Michele Boyd (who plays Riley) in the coming days, so if you have any questions for them please post them in the comments here!
Final thoughts…
For those eagled-eyed viewers who can ‘spot the join’ in the interviews – sue me! I’ve tried to keep the sense of what Sean was saying (in so much as he made sense) more than anything else. And if anyone else has some videos they need mangling then let me know. I can do that (for a huge fee!).
Where to find out more about Mr Becker:
WorldofHiglet is the online persona of writer Mary R. Higgins, a born-again geek reclaiming her heritage bit by bit. A youth filled with sci-fi, horror and adventure fare (TV, films, computer games and books) was crushed by years of office grind. Buffy brought her back into the fold after years of denial. Discovering Firefly sealed the deal. Now she geeks fulltime on her blog ‘the last geek bus home’ and her first novel ‘Turning left at Albuquerque” is currently looking for a home in publishing-land.
