Chuck: I Miss You; Come Back to Me!
by Jenn Kim
So I’ve been dealing with a lot of the unfamiliar lately: new city, new job, new people to judge me as I stumble drunkenly into them. Anyway, with all of these changes, I’ve been craving something familiar and comfortable to keep me warm during these already cold nights. And since I left my Snuggie in Jersey, I turn to the next best thing: television. (Shut up, I’m not lonely! *Sniff.) So..after hearing that Dollhouse just got canceled (I’ve never wanted to murder a network so badly in my life), I’m looking to the return of Chuck to provide some much needed solace in my not-at-all-solitary life.
Oh Chuck. I didn’t realize how much you really meant to me until you left me for so long. Your light humor, impeccable taste in guest stars, complete ease with challenging gender norms, and amazing 80s cover-band all make me long for your tender touch. What? I mean, I want to watch you again. Really soon.
Anyway, I feel I’m not alone with this sentiment. Remember when Chuck was in scary danger of being killed? Yeah, those were tough times. We were forced to be grateful that NBC had ordered only 13 new episodes that wouldn’t start airing until March of next year. But NOW, in its absence, it seems that the network has started appreciating Chuck just a bit more. After unceremoniously canceling Southland, NBC has ordered six more episodes for season 3, and there’s even talk that Chuck will come back as early as January. And how AWESOME would that be?? And here are just a few reasons why:
1) Sweet, sweet guest stars! I’m obviously rooting for Chuck and Sarah to get married and make cute CIA babies together, but I understand that the show won’t give us that anytime soon. I therefore don’t mind that the writers are giving Sarah and Chuck love interests in the form of savory eye-candy of both the male and female persuasions. What with Bryce Larkin getting his own show on USA (oh yeah, and being pretty dead from the Season 2 finale), looks like Sarah will be distracted by another perfect-looking, dark-haired white guy: Superman Returns star Brandon Routh will be guesting as a “mysterious new spy” and leader of Operation Bartowski. Meanwhile, the ridiculously beautiful Kristin Kreuk will be playing Hannah, a soon-to-be-BuyMore-employee who takes an interest in Chuck. Hopefully her character on Chuck will be a bit more fun and interesting than Lana Lang.

More fun guest stars to come include: Vinnie Jones, Angie Harmon, and Armand Assante.
2) New shift in power dynamics! Season 2 ended with Chuck having all kinds of crazy spy skills. (And yes, he knows Kung Fu.) What effect will this have on his relationship with Sarah and Casey? Will he be so quick to do as he’s told? More importantly, will he finally get to carry a gun?
3) So much more Awesome! I love Awesome. He’s unassuming, devoted, and generally hilarious. Oh, and he looks REALLY good without his shirt on. Actor Ryan Mcpartlin has shared that Awesome will be doing some spying of his own, and it will be a nice change of pace to see a him in a position of uncertainty. Will Awesome be the new Chuck, all bumbly and unsure of himself, while Chuck’s new skill-set turns him into someone of awesome confidence?
4) So this isn’t really something to look forward to, but Scott Bakula says his co-starring in that new TBS show about Old Guys doesn’t prevent him from coming back to guest star as Chuck’s dad. And we all know that Scott Bakula = the Hottest Old Guy Ever.
And to show you just how adorable the cast of Chuck really is (not that you had any doubt), the season 2 bloopers for your viewing pleasure!
Seriously, how amazing is Lester? Mother of Sweet Things!! I will hurt somebody’s feelings!!

Add to that list of guest stars… Robert Patrick! Woo!
I've been jonesing for Chuck recently, too. Luckily, Hulu has been cycling through season 2 while we wait.
oh yeah, i just heard about robert patrick! yeah, chuck is steppin' it up with awesome, genre-appropriate guest stars. and thank goodness for hulu.
oh brandon routh!! what a beautiful, enormously tall man! i actually think he may make casey look small. good match for sarah for sure. ah so much superman action on chuck! (and is it just me or is brandon wearing more guyliner in that pic than kristin kreuk??)
those bloopers bring joy to my heart. can't wait for chuck to return so i can get my steady dose of wonderfully enjoyable, adorable, safe tv.
haha touche on the guyliner. i was wondering why he looked particularly pretty in that pic.
and of all the excitement; i was watching nbc tonight, and saw a commercial for chuck that said it would def. be coming back in january! woohoo!
The three-hours-over-two-nights activates my residual Drive anxiety, but yay for the earlier premiere.
