Supernatural: 11/19 Preview

By Sylvia Bond

The new Supernatural episode, entitled “Abandon All Hope…” is set to air next Thursday. In it, our intrepid heroes Sam and Dean track down the Colt in the hopes that they can find and destroy Lucifer (a.k.a “Lucky”). In the midst of this, the boys join forces with Bobby, the Soap Angel, Ellen, and yes, Jo. The gang’s all here, but it’s not a happy reunion. Instead, the town is empty, the music is creepy, and the advance film clips look dark, dark, dark. And, oh yeah, need I add, there’s whumpage abounding!

“Abandon All Hope…” was written by Ben Edlund and directed by Phil Sgriccia and will air on Thurs., 11/19 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.

Sylvia Bond is a ten-year technical writing veteran with too many degrees under her belt to count. She lives in Colorado, but does not ski, preferring instead to spend her money and time at the annual Great American Beer Festival, taking road trips across the United States, and reading historical fiction from the comfort of her fluffy green arm chair. She has been involved in fandom since 1993 and been writing fanfic since approximately 1993. What she finds most amazing about fandom (besides the open heartedness of fans and the sheer amount of creativity) is how visible fandom has become. “In my day,” she says, “we had to hide behind P.O. boxes to get fanfic. But nowadays, people wear t-shirts that shout their affiliation and share their shiny toys on the internet.” It’s a wonderful world.

I'm very excited about this particular episode for its potential important brother moments, as this could be their last night on Earth. But at the same time I'm aprehensive that the writer chooses to give more screentime than necessary to supporting characters. I've been missing some good brotherly stuff for a while so please, please Kripe and Co, let it focus on the brothers and not on Castiel versus Lucifer, Bobby, Ellen or Jo. Thery are good as supporting characters, but I didn't become an SPN fan because of any of them.
