Whip It Good!

By Teresa Jusino – I want to be Drew Barrymore when I grow up. She’s only a couple of years older than I am, and yet she seems to have achieved a perfect balance between maturity and fun. She is a powerhouse actress and producer, which one can’t accomplish without intelligence, business savvy, and a willingness to make the tough calls. And yet, whenever I see her in interviews or behind-the-scenes featurettes, she seems like a big kid – and I mean that in the best way. She doesn’t take herself too seriously, and she seems to be trying to suck every bit of joy out of life.

Heroes: Hysterical Blindness

By TrinityVixen – A shame that such a poetical title is wasted on what has been and shall be known as the lesbian kiss episode. Doubly a shame that Ernie Hudson should be so little utilized in his guest-starring role. Couldn’t we have incorporated him into the Carnival? (He has been in one before.) I’ll miss him when he’s gone. They need to stop teasing me with these cameos. Perhaps he’ll show up later and be as awesome as Swoosie Kurtz turned out to be. Mustn’t get my hopes up. This show has been so cruel to hopes in the past.

Flash Forward: 137 Sekunden

By Jenn Kim – Let me start off by saying that I actually like this show. Ever since I fell in love with Quantum Leap (and Scott Bakula, SIGH) as a wee child, I’ve been quite taken with the concept of time, and future, and whether it can be changed and stuff. I think the premise of Flash Forward is pretty damn interesting (for 2 minutes and 17 seconds, you pass out and you’re in your future body doing futurey stuff! Will the futurey stuff come true?), and when I heard that John Cho was set to co-star in this scifi-y show on a major television network, I almost lost my sh*t. Surely nerdgasms would ensue!

SyFy Press Tour: Why It Nearly Didn’t Happen for Me

By WorldofHiglet – When Lisa emailed me to say that there was another place on the Syfy.com press tour in Vancouver I was excited. I mean – I am HUGE fan of BSG and the thought of visiting the Caprica set (and maybe seeing Jane (bow, you fool!) Espenson), seeing where it all happened was awe-inspiring. Add to that a chance to catch up on some other, new-to-me sci-fi and it was going to be soooo good.

Paranormal Activity, I’m Glad You Weren’t in 3D

by Boogie Brown – I really dislike scary movies (and the Scary Movie series for that matter). When I saw The Ring, it was on HBO at 10 in the morning in the middle of July with the summer sun beaming into my living room, and I still couldn’t bear to see a television screen for an entire month afterwards. I totally went analog and had to read books for entertainment. It was terrible. All the characters sounded like me!

Horror Movie Primer: Sequels

By Rhea Dee – October is a wonderful month. Why? Because it’s the best month to veg out and enjoy horror cinema! Unfortunately, basic cable has little variation in their horror movie rotation–I dunno about you, but I can only watch Halloween 4 so many times before I want to gouge out my eyeballs Fulci style.

Dollhouse: Instinct

By Sonia Aurora – Seeing as I was away and then sick the past few days, I decided to take a different approach to watching Dollhouse’s most recent episode, “Instinct.” Typically, I will sit at my computer and dissect, pausing the episode multiple times while I type out ideas, quotes, anything that I think will enhance the experience. But, in many ways, I don’t always enjoy the show for it being just that – a vessel of entertainment. So this week, I decided – from my bed – to just watch, enjoy, and then review afterwards.

Heroes: Acceptance

By TrinityVixen – What was the point of this episode? I mean, besides the fabulosity of Swoosie Kurtz and Christine Rose pursing their lips at each other over wine and the murders of their respective children? What, exactly, went anywhere? What was done?
