Scary Word of the Day: Conservatives
I was going to skip the Monsters vs. Aliens Halloween special and watch It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown just to spite CG animation, while muttering about how these kids today don’t appreciate quality, hand-drawn animation. It’s all computers with the online and the texting on the cell phones, bah!
But, there’s a problem with that.
I really, really hate Charlie Brown specials. The only thing remotely enjoyable about Charlie Brown is his Vince Guaraldi Trio soundtrack, and I have that on CD (I know – a CD, how retro).
I watched Monsters vs. Aliens: Mutant Pumpkins from Space.
Of course, I’ve seen Great Pumpkin, and the other Charlie Brown specials, a hundred times growing up. There was something special about it back then. I mean, it was a cartoon! And it was on at night!
That’s not to say that The Simpsons, Family Guy and other primetime animated programs that came later took away the (limited) magic of those specials. And neither did CGI. I’m just older, able to determine when a holiday special isn’t working for me, and eliminate it from my viewing schedule rather than slavishly watching it every year simply because that’s what I’ve always done.
Which brings me to the scary word of the day:
Conservatives.
Ah, those conservative, Republican scamps! Attempting to hold me to values that aren’t mine and an era whose time was up before I was even born. Letting corporate interests run amok over the citizens, trampling the middle class to an unrecognizable pulp. Blocking health care reform because. . . um. . . well, I guess because Aetna, Blue Cross/ Blue Shield, and Cigna say the system is fine just as it is right now.
A recent CNN poll shows that 61% of Americans support a public option. However, the needs of the majority are being blocked by (primarily) rural Republican congressmen, many of whom receive campaign funds from insurance companies.
So, if the latest Saw movie just isn’t giving you the scary Halloween chills this year, look no further than our Congress to fill the fright void.

Her earliest influences are Princess Leia, Rainbow Bright, Astronaut Barbie, and her 6th grade teacher, Ms. Palmer. She’s angry that it’s almost 2010 and she still doesn’t have a hovercraft, but will accept a jetpack as consolation. That jetpack had better be pink with a rhinestone monogram.

Wow — where do I begin?? Uhm maybe asking you to investigate your claims more? The "conservatives" have attempted to introduce at least SIX policies of their own.. but since the Dems are the majority, they are being ignored. Conservatives are all for healthcare reform.. we really are.. We don't believe someone should be fined if they decide (choose -as in free to choose) to not have healthcare. we believe policing all the fraud that is already abundant can save billions of dollars. We believe unions should not be able to keep their own cadillac insurance policies. We believe you should be FREE to CHOOSE (see the difference — choice vs gov't mandates) insurance across state lines. We believe the trial lawyers need to be reined in and torte reform introduced so doctors don't keep asking for every test in the book in order to protect themselves from malpractice suits.
Conservatives believe gov't should not run your life from cradle to grave and can't run a program successfully if their lives depended on it (oops ours will!). Look at the post office, Amtrak, Social Security, the DMV!! Do you want your healthcare run by these same people?
So for my.. the scary word of the day is………. BIG GOV'T! (aka Big Brother)
The House bill released today includes that.
This is John Boehner at a press conference this morning on the topic of a GOP health care bill:
“We have a number of ideas that we would like to proffer in this process, and we’re not quite sure how the majority intends to proceed. And so until we understand how they intend to proceed, it’s pretty difficult for us to have a solid plan.”
I find it hard to believe that the reason why insurers routinely deny coverage, drop people when they become sick, and drive the sick into bankruptcy is because of trial lawyers pursing heath care workers who made mistakes.
What I do believe is that I shouldn’t be financially destroyed because I get sick. I should be able to get my prescribed treatment at a reasonable cost.
Funny. For a group who screams “SMALL GOVERNMENT!!!!” and “FREE TO CHOSE!!!”, you bunch are certainly quick to make decisions about who can marry who, what medical procedures women can have done, and what religious teachings should be posted in courthouses.
BTW, Amtrak always gets me where I’m going on time and at a reasonable price. I’ve also used the DMV in multiple cities and multiple states and never had a problem.
