Walking Dead on AMC

AMC is seriously becoming my favorite cable channel. They have Mad Men, they’re bringing a new version of The Prisoner later this year. And now, they’ll be bringing The Walking Dead to television. AMC, thank god for you.

The Walking Dead Book 2 (Bk. 2)Walking Dead is easily my favorite zombie property ever. I’m not so much into zombie carnage as I am into seeing how humanity deals with the new zombie world order, which doesn’t have room for things like running water or Wii, and Walking Dead is the only property that truly addresses the human condition in such an event.

Joel Stillerman, VP of Original Programming said:

“I don’t know of another series of books that has such beautiful storytelling, great human emotions and everything that really works on AMC,” he said. “It allows us to stay where we want to stay: in the world of smart, sophisticated storytelling and apply that to a show that we think the audience would love.”

Based on what I’ve seen of AMC original programming, I think they’re going to do a bang up job on Walking Dead, particularly because Frank Darabont is writing and directing.

I can’t help but think my willingness comes from AMC’s “Story Matters Here” advertising campaign. Being true to the story and the characters has always been a big issue for me, and it’s not often that I’ve seen a network follow through on such things, maintaining story integrity rather than selling out for a buck.

Lisa Fary’s early exposure to classic Battlestar Galactica in 1979 is largely responsible for her lifelong interest in science fiction and her childhood ambition of being an intergalactic space cowgirl. She thinks diagramming sentences is a fun alternative to Sudoku.

Lisa Fary's earliest influences are Princess Leia, Rainbow Bright, Astronaut Barbie, and her 6th grade teacher, Ms. Palmer. She's angry that it's 2011 and she still doesn't have a hovercraft, but will accept a jetpack as consolation. That jetpack had better be pink with a rhinestone monogram.

Innnteresting. First AMC gets into sci-fi with The Prisoner, now they're taking on the supernatural. I have to admit that I've never heard of these books, but it certainly sounds intriguing. Not sure how a post-zombie-apocalypse story will play out in the long form of TV, but I'll give it a look.

    Oh. My. God.

I'm just seeing this now, and I'm SO EXCITED! I, too, LOVE Walking Dead, and while I never thought about the possibilities of it as anything other than a comic, I'm SO happy to hear this and so thrilled that a network like AMC is taking it on.
