After some further consideration, I'd like to reiterate here what I've just posted on the EW Ausiello page.

"My theory: Joss has always encouraged us to play in his worlds and create fanfiction, fanart, etc. I'm betting he is choosing to look at this proposed "reboot" as really expensive AU fanfiction. It seems like the most sane thing he can do about it for the time being. We also have to remember that just because something is proposed or rumored in Hollywood, that doesn't necessarily mean it'll happen. I mean, ten years ago Nicolas Cage was trying his darnedest to be the next Superman."

Count me in the "Bonehead move" camp.

Funny how this announcement comes only after Joss and Sarah put to rest any consideration of continuing live action Buffy together. The Kuzuis are clearly just trying to cash in on the successful TV and comic series that they had next to nothing to do with, the resurgence of vampire lore (Twilight, ugh), and the current trend of remakes/reboots. Their first attempt at a Buffy movie -- campy and fun though it was -- isn't a very good movie, precisely because they cut Joss out of the process of making it once the script was written. If they're not involving him at all, I can't see how it could possibly be good.

I think it's just someone t else trying to cash on the Twilight Vampire craze.

I love a good vampire flick, and I'd actually be into this if they weren't calling it BTVS. I think that is stupid part - it's just going to be annoying to the fans because it definitely won't be 'Buffy'.

No, it won't be Buffy.

Like the 'new' Spaced won't really be 'Spaced', like....everything that has been reimagined/rebooted/rebranded/whatever isn't the original thing. This might be a good or bad thing. I liked the new BSG, but I liked the old one when I was a kid, too.

I have invested a significant amount of my finite time watching the 'real' Buffy and I have no interest in this project at all. Buffy is done for me and will be preserved as the groundbreaking, iconic, flawed-yet-perfect masterpiece it is.

If they actually do this I will just ignore it. It has nothing to do with me.

Really, it all comes down to the writing. With a solid writing team, I'm all on board for this, but until that information is released, count me as officially on the fence.

And continuing with that...(my comments are way too long, sorry):

In the end, there's nothing that will tarnish my love for the show. I've seen a lot of reactionary comments on other boards that are all "Noooo don't be stealin my show!!" but I just don't feel that way, because I feel like it implies that this movie will somehow overshadow the greatness of the show. And I know for a fact it won't. It's just a movie. And it may (or may not) be awesome. We'll see. I know I'll be there.

I kinda can't believe I'm saying this but...I'm kinda excited about this.

This is possibly because the Star Trek reboot was just so damn good and I'm feeling good right now about reboots/remakes.

Now, I love the show. And I love The Whedon. And even if he comes out and curses this movie, I will probably still see it. Why? Because I like watching movies where a girl is the star and that girl kicks ass (literally). Because there's not enough of them. Sure, not all of them are brilliant (Electra, I'm looking at you) but I feel like there's a MAJOR shortage of kick-ass MOVIE heroines.

And truth be told, I liked the original Buffy movie, with all it's camp splendor. It had some great quotes (a guy at the prom describing the vampire teens as pale bloodsuckers and then speculating that they were Young Republicans) and it had Paul Rubens (who is kinda my hero).

If the movie featured a different slayer, I'd probably be okay with it. I would possibly even go see it. But if it's some bizarre alternate universe Buffy, count me out. I'm far too attached to the tv series. Definitely going to be following this story with interest, though, thanks for the heads up!
