Chuck versus the Ring

by Jenn Kim – As I’ve come to the wisdom of my late-20s, there are a few absolutes I’ve discovered about myself. First, I’m irrationally attracted to plaid and the pairing of graphic tees and blazers (except when worn by Roommie); second; I have “unique” taste when it comes to choosing my TV/film boyfriends (I still maintain that Giovanni Ribisi is a really good actor whose weirdness is totally charming and quirky); and finally, if NBC cancels Chuck, I’m going to lose my $h!t. Seriously.

Dollhouse: Haunted

By Sonia Aurora – It is becoming more and more apparent that the strength in Dollhouse lies in its ensemble cast. Eliza Dushku, being pushed hard as the “Star” (aka, the “Draw” for the show) has shown chops as an actress, mostly adequate, but sometimes shining even brighter than that. There’s a relief to knowing that she isn’t just trying to coast on her sex appeal and looks (even though Fox infuriatingly keeps showing those Eliza naked “Dollhouse will be back in 90 seconds” promos). But I know I prefer what Ballard, Langdon, Dr. Saunders, Topher and DeWitt have to offer instead of Echo.

Heroes: An Invisible Thread

By TrinityVixen – How do you solve a problem like Sylar? Frontal assaults don’t work. He could be anyone at any time (and be them convincingly thanks to Mama Petrelli’s interference), so it’s pretty hard to get the drop on him. He’s fairly clever, unquestionably psychotic and immeasurably powerful; in other words, he’s smart and ruthless enough to take full advantage of any and every ability he has at every moment. He is this show’s Dark Phoenix.

Smallville: Eternal

By TrinityVixen – “Eternal” aired the same night as “The Monster at the End of this Book.” Very similar story structures—the main plot centering on a book that details the events in the lives of the heroes—very different outcomes. One of them was good. (Nay, great!) The other was this episode of Smallville. Welcome to the worst non-Lana episode of season eight. (So far, dun-dun-dun.)

Comics: Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader?

by Teresa Jusino – Maybe it’s the fact that Aunt Flo is visiting. (Hey, this is Pink Raygun. I can say things like “Aunt Flo is visiting” and you’ll be cool with it, right?) Or maybe it’s just that the two issues that make up Neil Gaiman and Andy Kubert’s Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader? are The Moist Panties Issues of Batman. Whatever the reason, when I read Part Two of the story I nearly burst into tears. I never thought that reading Batman comics would make me act like such a girl.

For the Love of Coraline

by Teresa Jusino – I love Coraline. She’s the kind of kid who, were I babysitting her, I’d tame with sarcasm then smile at helplessly when her back was turned, even as she pouted and harumphed. This is, of course, the Coraline of the Neil Gaiman novel.

Welcome Back the Boys from the Dwarf!

By JR Pepper – I’ll admit it, the entertainment world has screwed with me for the last few years. Somehow they manage to get my fan girl hopes up, (X-Files sequel anyone?) only to see the shows and characters I love get destroyed like that damn pagoda in every Godzilla flick, (damn you X-Files film, you broke my heart!). So when rumors of new Red Dwarf episodes surfaced on the internet, I was not excited. Frankly, I was absolutely terrified.
