Sylvia Bond is a ten-year technical writing veteran with too many degrees under her belt to count. She lives in Colorado, but does not ski, preferring instead to spend her money and time at the annual Great American Beer Festival, taking road trips across the United States, and reading historical fiction from the comfort of her fluffy green arm chair. She has been involved in fandom since 1993 and been writing fanfic since approximately 1993. What she finds most amazing about fandom (besides the open heartedness of fans and the sheer amount of creativity) is how visible fandom has become. "In my day," she says, "we had to hide behind P.O. boxes to get fanfic. But nowadays, people wear t-shirts that shout their affiliation and share their shiny toys on the internet." It's a wonderful world.

Just a fun thought since Adler commented on how tired Dean looked. I decided Dean had spent the night in serious thought about Sam's plan to hunt. IMO he'd decided to do it so he'd call Sam to come up and discuss it. I like to think that's the call Sam didn't pick up. When Dean got no answer, he'd worry about Sam. Next he'd check personnel records and approach Sam away from work.
As I said, something to make me feel better about the brothers not connecting on the show. I wanted the show to confirm my suspicion Dean had already decided to hunt before he got the bonus offer. The impact is greater if Dean gets the offer and has to reconsider his decision to hunt with Sam. And he decides yet again to hunt.
For me this makes it easier to accept the end speech actually working which is the direction I believe the show will take. I'd like the positive push to have come before Adler's talk when Dean spent the idea debating Sam's idea. It came from Dean himself as he ran the pros and cons, coming down on the side of saving people.
I thought this ending was a deliberate cliffhanger: I don't think we were meant to get any resolution. They cut it short, not just leaving Sam's story ending out of it, but leaving Dean's own reaction to Zechariah's "pep" talk out of it too.
In fact, we're still left hanging about the whole angel thing in general. I think they are a double-fakeout, yes. And the writers are keeping us in the dark purposefully.
But what I'm hoping is that the next episode will give us some of that resolution. I know, I'm an eternal optimist…*g*
Oh, fiddle. I don't want to let Show off the hook! I want it to take some responsibility for this mess they've left me in!
Not to spoil anyone, but the next one sounds like a fun ep, rather than one that's going to offer any resolution at all, whatsoever. Sadly.
But I'll be an optimist with you that at least it will be entertaining, and the boys will have a good time. That's all that matters, really.
*clings to my illusions* No, Kripke has a plan! All will be resolved!
Or, you know, we can just blame Sera. *grins*
loved the review
thanks!
I enjoyed about 90% of this ep…unfortunately the ending ruined it for me a bit. Kripke said himself that the show was essentially about brothers/family, so why does it always have to go back to just one brother! Theres no reason why Sam shouldnt be just as much a part of this whole angels/Dean storyline as Dean is. I loved then bit when Sam smashed the phone with the iron….I pretty much stopped breathing….those arms get me everytime : )
There otta be a law against arms that are as powerful and sexy as that!! I liked watching Sam loose it a bit too, because he almost never does. But then, this season, we saw him throwing the phone right? When he lost his temper. At least he takes it out on inanimate objects, instead of punching his brother.
The brothers have to come together at some point, otherwise what is all this about? The separation and the fighting and the not connecting – if it's not rectified at some point (THIS SEASON) then the storyline will become improbable and loose it's steam. IMO.
Thanks for liking the review!

Sure there is, Dean was never part of Sam's demon blood storyline. In fact he was useless in most of it(remembering back on all the psychic kid episodes where Dean always ended up with guns pointed at his head or tied to a chair). Sam had the whole mytharc to himself for 3 years. I am perfectly happy for Dean to have something of his own for once. It's not like Sam doesn't still have his own storyline. He does and they have focused on it in a number of episodes.(4,7,9,12, 13 for starters).
This I agree with. I ADORE Sam. After Tim Riggins on Friday Night Lights (Sorry, I have to pimp FNL whenever possible), he is my favorite character on TV right now. But, the mytharc was entirely about him for 3 seasons. Now they have to play catch-up with Dean in one season. It has been a bit heavy-handed in that it involved an awful lot of exposition, but I'm not sure what the alternative would have been.
You *are* an optimist! : D
And I'm sure Ms. Gamble wasn't working along……
I agree, the secondary characters didn't need quite that much attention. I also think part of the problem is that we need Raelle Tucker back. When she and Sera wrote together, they put out some awesome episodes. But the ones that Sera has written alone aren't as good. They're not bad, necessarily, just not as awesome as those joint ventures were.
I heard Ms. Tucker went to write for Chuck right after Season 2? Which is when the story stared getting all wonky, I think.
I think you're right. At least she gave us What is and What Should Never Be before she left. But I really, really wish she had stayed. There's a level of…heart and humanity that has been missing since she departed. I think things felt more grounded through the end of the second season. Now it could be coincidence, that things changed right when she left, and I guess we'll never really know, but things have certainly been different without her.
You are oh so very right about them being lovely no matter the color. They certainly are.
Also? I think the gremlins are eating posts again.
Damn those gremlins anyhow!!!!! Lets get the YED after them, shall we?
I really liked your review and agreed with most!
The ending did kind of ruin it and I'm very concerned that Kripke is taking back what he said the show would be about because lately it doesn't feel like it's about the brothers at all and I just found out that the guy that plays Castiel will be in 17 episodes next season! I'm trying to remain positive but after this ending where they completely left out Sam's ending I'm beginning to worry.
Seventeen episodes? Oh man, you've got to be kidding. The Soap Angel is just NOT that interesting. A little of him goes a long way. Collins is fine, it's the character I object to. Taking screen time away from my boys!
Singlemindedly Yours,
Sylvia Bond
I've got to say I am a little confused on how they are going to do this, because Castiel is possessing someone. Dress it up any way you like, he is using some poor schmucks body, and not taking very good care of it by the way. And this is different from a demon how?
Okay. Upon reflection, I would agree with you about the suit. Yes it was dorky but I still believe Jensen takes gorgeous to a whole new level. And, yes, the brightness did make his eyes and freckles stand out. I am in agreement with you on Sam. Yes, it was so cool seeing Sam keep the brothers on towards the logical conclusion. He saw the truth and that in itself makes me believe there is still hope for Sammy!
I LOVE the new dynamic between Castiel and Dean so no complaints there, it's just a shame Sam doesn't have an equally interesting allie because now I'm watching for Dean/Castiel and Sam/Dean but when Sam and Ruby are on the screen together I lose interest quickly mostly due to the actress. I've tried to get past it and focus on the story but I just can't. Back to this episode; 1)Jensen looks younger and younger and more gorgeous each episode and I want to know his secret.
2)Agree that they should have shown Sam and Dean reconnect at the end, perhaps Sam buying Dean a burger to make up for the new horror afflicted on him this week – salad.
3)Overall I loved it but I'll be happy if I never saw the Ghostfacers again they are like a bad joke.
