Wil Wheaton, Part 3: The Last Member

Much in the way one does when they know what it’s like to have had their childhood s!@t upon (he explained, citing The Phantom Menace as an example), Wil Wheaton has made good in a most extraordinary way

You may have become familiar with my epic plight in an earlier article I wrote recounting my heartbreak at not receiving my Wil Wheaton Fan Club materials when I was eight years old. You may have read on in the saga to discover that Everyone’s Favorite Professional Geek reached out to me and promised that I would receive my membership package after all, albeit 21 years later than planned.

Wil has kept his promise!

My membership kit, which included an actual membership card, a large photo, and a wallet-sized photo:

Check out the autograph on the back of the large photo! It’s like In Living Color meets Wayne’s World. Also, 15-year-old Wil Wheaton likes Batman.  A LOT:

And you have to see this wallet-size photo up close. Check out the bedroom eyes on this kid:

Note that my official WilPower membership card is made out to 8 Year Old Teresa Jusino (so does that mean 29-year-old Teresa isn’t a member?). Also, I wish I had a name that could also be a word that could be used to name something like a club or a website. “Teresa” can’t really be used in punning, and that makes me a bit sad:

Lastly, here is the official welcome membership letter from Fifteen-Year-Old Wil to Eight-Year-Old Me:

Very often, it seems like truly nice people are in short supply. We become cynical, because we assume that people are only in it for themselves; that even when people are nice, they’re only looking to get something out of it. Wil didn’t have to send this. He didn’t have to respond to my article. It was a humor piece that I wrote for fun, and while the thought of him reading it crossed my mind, I certainly wasn’t expecting him to, you know, do anything about it. But he did, in a really sweet way.And in doing so, he proved himself to be worthy of admiration not just for the cool blog posts, the stories he writes, the forums he heads up, or the roles he plays, but for being a pretty awesome human being. And for that, he gets a big thank you from Twenty-Nine Year Old Me. Don’t get me wrong. Eight Year Old Me is very, very pleased. But Twenty-Nine Year Old Me better knows the importance of a kind gesture, and hopes that her gratitude carries more weight.

And now, I can take pride in knowing that I am the LAST official member of the Wil Wheaton Fan Club. Hey, if I couldn’t be the first, right? I’ll take all the bragging rights I can get!
