Oh, my goodness, your power was out? Hope everything is okay now because, as you know, it's Thursday again and that can only mean one thing: Winchester BOYS!!!!

I think they killed The Dad off too soon. It's a mistake on Show's part because he created such an interesting dynamic. Plus, you know, that dashing smile of his was quite easy on the eyes.

I'm glad to hear that you had a teacher that made a difference, and more than one! Teachers are so unappreciated and definitely underpaid; it takes a lot of dedication to be a good teacher.

Dean was always Sam's protector, but I think, like the ep shows here, he wasn't always the man we see. At one point, for a while, he was just a stupid kid, too. I really enjoyed seeing that part of him.

Best Regards,

Dear Tonia,

Oh, my, what a lovely post! And thank you, I do try to be appreciative of both boys, and it's really no hardship. If I'm not obsessing over befreckled skin, then I have inky locks to admire, so I win either way. : D

Colin Ford, oh, my WORD, that kid. What a gem, I'm so glad that Show found him to play Sam. He is more than perfect, he's the embodiment of WeeSam. He should be well proud of himself, well proud.

And the slow motion scene, yeah, that was pretty cool. I'm afraid I wasn't able to admire it as I should have, being so peeved, as I was over the lack of The Dad. But yeah, the judicious use of slo mo here totally worked.

Interesting idea you have there about the werewolf paper. Yeah, thinking about it, wouldn't Sammy kind of know that would get him some unwanted attention? Or, at least, unwanted as far as The Dad would be concerned. But I think you're right, it was a cry for help. Mr. Wyatt was the best teacher EVER. I think, too, that it was spot on for Dean to not come out on top; there has to be a reason he never felt school, any school, was his best environment. There is some fannish speculation that he never even finished school at all. That would be in keeping with what we saw in this ep; Dean hated that school. Hated it.

Padalecki did shine, I just hope he gets more opportunity to do so. I like guest towels just fine, but....I only have the two and they never get used.

Best Regards,

Sylvia

Dear Erika,

Hey, thank you and ditto everything you said. Show could give me flashbacks of The Dad all day long and it still wouldn't be enough. And seriously, I don't think they did ask, like, at all. He would have been there in a heartbeat if they had.

Jared. Heartbreaker. I like that combination of words, and it's so true. He's an underused talent if ever I saw one; he can do more, I think he wants to do more. I can't wait for him to get that opportunity.

Hang in there. The way I figure it, it's better than no boys at all.

Best Regards,

Excellent review! I would love it if this show had more flashbacks, and more of Dad. JDM probably got enough money from his appearance on Grey's Anatomy to swing a freebie if SPN needed it. Sometimes, you just need to ask.....

The wee!actors were wonderful in their roles, with Colin Ford being a perfect fit and a fine actor in his own right. I love how Jared Padalecki really brings it home when the show lets him. Honestly, forget Castiel, Ruby, or Bobby. The character I've missed the most this season has been Sam Winchester. What kind of writing staff or show runners bury a talent like Jared's, a heartbreaker like Sam? I do not get it and I never have. I have waited far too long for this show to focus on Sam this season. It's really hurt the show for me and I hope season 5 won't make me feel like this.

Hmmmm. Buffoon. Yes, I'd say that was a good way to describe it. Show loves Dean, but it seems sometimes they love ONE boy or the other and not both at the same time. Why can't we have a Sammy ep without Dean coming across as a joke?

Dear Joan,

How very kind of you to say so. But really everything I write about the boys and Show is for entirely selfish purposes - I do it so that I can go ON and ON and ON about them, and get other people to go ON and ON and ON, too, so that I won't be alone in my obsession. : D

That you feel comfortable here, even though you are a "Dean Girl" and I am a "Sam Girl'" is not a credit to me alone, but to the kinds of people that come to Pink Raygun, and who take the time to join the conversation. It's YOU guys who make this a fun and safe place, where we can talk about this like adults. Well, mostly talk about it like adults, I'm afraid when it comes to the Samhair and the Deanfreckles, I turn into bit of a schoolgirl.

Best Regards,

Dear Chook,

Thank you so much for coming by and reading, and for your lovely post. I think there was lots that was good about this ep, and some clinkers among the mix, but overall, yeah, flashbacks. I just dig them.

You make a good point about how Dean was just "going" with it, but, at the same time, the same lack of logic still applies. Regardless of his situation, Dean always relates well to kids, and I don't think his being in a group, as some have pointed out, would have made a difference.

I love how you pointed out the lack of Ruby. I realize now that she was gone but truly, I never even missed her.

Best Regards,

Dear Sylvia,

I wanted to take a moment to let you know how grateful I am to you. You have helped bring together a group of people who love the Winchester Boys with every part of their being. It really doesn't matter if we are a 'Sam girl' or a 'Dean girl' or both (which is me). What matters is we all are drawn to this site because of you. Your passion for this show is evident. Your attention to detail is unbelievable and your writing skills...well now that is your gift to us all. Your reviews have made me laugh and cry. Your obsession with Sam's hair and Dean's freckles always make me smile. This is the only site I feel completely comfortable coming to and it is the only site I recommend to my friends and family. I am so glad I stumbled across this site because I know that I have found a home. I know someday Supernatural will end it's run and that saddens me to know end but for the last year, I have really enjoyed getting to know you and several other people. I am glad you love this show as much as we do. It has been a 'blast' sharing my thoughts, and comments and lists with you.

So thank you, Sylvia!

Take care Joan

Another great review! thanks!
I really enjoyed this ep, although i'm dissapointed that the writers didn't stick to Deans 'I don't do shorts' policy! Thats one line that no fan could forget, so seeing Dean in shorts was pretty unexpected. I think he was just getting caught up in the charade when he threw the ball at the kid, and he did say sorry (i think..), but i still thought it was pretty cheap humor, if thats what show was going for. Jared's acting was amazing as per usual, and it was great seeing him in an ep where Sams presence was actually felt. Colin Ford was great, and i think Brock Kelly pulled off little Dean, in particular he nailed the voice! I'm so happy that Ruby didn't make her usual appearance...The one where she comes whining to Sam the second Deans left the room about how he should he using his powers...to be honest, i'm getting pretty sick of it! It was a great episode, and i loved the flashbacks. The director pulled them off so well. I hope we'll get to learn even more about the brothers past eventually. Thanks again for the review :)

You're swell to be so much on Kripke's side on this one - I'm just gonna say it again, would it have killed them? I think not. And we don't know if Show asked JDM or not, or how all that went down, but I'm going to place the blame on Show for not asking, because that feels better to me. : D

I like your idea that it could be PTSD to explain Dean, but then, it would have been nice to have that bit of logic included in the dialog or somehow made part of what was going on. Rather than making it a joke and feeling to me like it was out of chracter. You know? I love Show to pieces and I can go along (and have!) with a lot. But that was too much for me.

You're swell to be so much on Kripke's side on this one – I'm just gonna say it again, would it have killed them? I think not. And we don't know if Show asked JDM or not, or how all that went down, but I'm going to place the blame on Show for not asking, because that feels better to me. : D

I like your idea that it could be PTSD to explain Dean, but then, it would have been nice to have that bit of logic included in the dialog or somehow made part of what was going on. Rather than making it a joke and feeling to me like it was out of chracter. You know? I love Show to pieces and I can go along (and have!) with a lot. But that was too much for me.

I wonder if Dean's OOC actions as the gym teacher aren't another example of his PTSD. My boy's behavior was drastically changed and all over the place in the beginning. To me Dean has been very inconsistent in his actions since he came back and finally remembered hell. In my opinion I don't think it is necessarily inconsistent writing but rather a way of showing how his PTSD is affecting me.

I agree the shorts weren't that sexy and I can't see Dean doing shorts unless the school didn't give him the option of wearing anything else. And if that is the case, I think he'll give Sam a very hard time the next time they go undercover.

I think Kripke doesn't have the budget to have JDM appear in an episode especially for what would essentially be only a couple of minutes. With all the budget cuts he's had to endure, he has to be careful how he spends the available funds. If he asked I'm sure JDM would do it unless he had a prior committment. At least I'd like to think so after his comments.

Hello again, Sylvia,

I totally agree with your comments about Dean as the mean Coach and those silly shorts which were in no way sexy. I think the Show did a great disservice to Dean. Dean deserves better. Is it just me or has Show been making Dean come off as a buffoon lately. I really enjoy Dean and all his smartass remarks but I think the writers are trying a little too hard lately and it just comes off as plain unfunny silly.

What they did, showing the Impala and the outline of the figure inside was a tease, and a not very nice one. John was supposed to be driving, and so why.............why? Why didn't we get to see him? I think it's personal, and I think Show has it in for John fans, and they're only playing with us because they can. It was cruel!!!

Coach Dean! Good one! I don't know if it's because they don't like Dean, it seems more like whoever wrote this one simply doesn't know Dean. I wanted to ask, yet again, Do you guys even WATCH the show? Sheesh.

I think you're right. It was JP's best ep this season. Pity he's only given so many opportunities to shine, but at least he makes the best of them, when he can.

You're more than welcome! Thanks for coming by.

Sorry about the trouble with the server, I hope it's working okay now, and I appreciate your posting at my LJ with so many cool details to think about!

Colin Ford was so good; I anticipate that we'll be seeing more of him as the years go by. I hope he sticks with it, and remembers how far that subtlety will take him.

I loved this ep too, in spite of Dean in his shorts.

Oh, sure. I can see that Sam was the one who decided on their disguises, and that Dean would go along with it. I just can't see Dean wearing shorts or being that sadistic, is all.

While it is very likely that WeeDean played dodgeball with his friends or even with The Dad, I do not and will not ever believe that Dean, and the man we have come to know him as, would ever be abusive to a kid and do what he did in that scene. Even if he was playing around at being "their god," Dean's connection with kids, as we've been shown up to this point, means that he would never throw a ball at a kid's stomach hard enough so that the kid doubles over. It was out of character for me, plain and simple.

As for the shorts, again, not in character. Dean doesn't do shorts, and even Sam couldn't "make" him. Even though Dean has some very nice legs, I thought the shorts looked stupid, rather than sexy in any way.

And Jeffrey Dean Morgan, I'm fully convinced that he would have done it, had Show but asked him. He said only recently in an interview that he would love to play John WInchester again, and I believe him. It would have added so much to this ep to have John there.

As for Sammy, I agree with you 100%. It was terribly sad to watch him struggle through the memories of his past; WeeSammy was more than perfect in every single way possible. He's what made the ep work for me.

Best Regards,

Dean had the kids playing dodgeball because it's what The Dad would have done and it's probably what HE used to play. He didn't go to school during kinder, gentler days. He played dodgeball, Syl! I adore WeeSam. The actor is spot on perfect. WeeDean was OK. I loved the shorts scene, and didn't question it. If Dean was told to wear shorts in his role, it's what he would do. Besides, they did it for us, the fangirls. I can't object, really! Dean doesn't do parents, just their daughters, LOL! I cried a bunch of times during this ep, just feeling so sorry for both boys. That final question, asked of Sam--"Are you happy?"--really set off my waterworks. JDM simply does NOT have time for SUPERNATURAL any longer. It would have been marvelous for him to appear, but let's face it, he doesn't DO it anymore! At least we got a big hunk of him during the THEN segments. Love, Robin
