I understand the trepidation that the preview could instill, but having read the episode I think the show actually has incredible potential. It certainly isn't 90210 with Cylons, and a holo-club posing as the peach pit. The pilot is at it's core a really well done sci-fi mystery about the nature of human life. As far as it being about familial relationships, there's nothing to fear in that. At it's core, at least to me, BSG is a family drama. Adama is certainly established as a neglectful father in the BSG pilot and Apollo is a bit of a misunderstood teen. The whole ship is a family. The relationships between characters are what makes BSG incredible story telling. It's a human drama first, and a sci fi/action show second(something that Heroes seems to have abandoned). I don't really think we're gonna get any "who's frakking who" story arches in the show. I hope there’s some frakking, but I don’t think it will become a center piece. There are some really great ideas and moments imbedded into this new story. Will it have tons of raptor battles? Maybe it won't. Will it be solid story telling that engages and provokes the viewer? I believe it will. The scene released did suck, but it was a very poor realization of the script, and the scene was taken out of context. I guess only the gods only know what the true fate of Caprica will be, but personally, I loved the script and think that the show will grow into itself.
