WoWoW: Second Career Choices
by John Zakour
I haven’t been playing as much WoW this week due wanting to push forward on my next and the promotional time needed for my Zuda entry Lasers Dragons and Lies. So I haven’t been allowing myself to play until I have written at least 2K words and sent out a bunch of emails to contacts telling them to check out LDL on Zuda. That said, when I have been playing WoW I am been concentrating on one of the more boring (but important) aspects of WoW, making money, well gold.
When I first starting WoWing a bout a year ago I was a herbalist and alchemist. I quickly leveled them both up to their max. I liked herb collecting from the start. Herbs are all over the place, you don’t need a special tool to gather them and they stack nicely and bring nice sums at the auction house. The thing was Alchemy wasn’t exciting enough for me. So I switched. I wanted to try something different and whacky so I went to Engineering. At first Engineering was fun. I love some of the descriptions of the items and some of the things you can make can be useful. Yet at least to me most of the things I made seemed to be costly in time and materials then they were worth. So I decided to switch again.
This time I went to skinning. I figured skinning was easy, kill things, skin them and then sell the goods. I quickly (within a matter of days) leveled skinning up to 450. Now I had two sources of straight income. I could collect and skin all I wanted and really get the gold flowing. This worked great for about a month but then I got bored again. I don’t know why I but decided to try another profession, this time Inscription. I guess I figured inscription worked well in WoW because of my herbs and worked well in RL as I am a writer.
Over the past couple of weeks I have gotten my Inscription up to 350. I have learned a couple of things, at least on my server most inscription items don’t sell that much and inscription seems to be less useful to me as a player than alchemy was. So I may complete the circle and go back to Alchemy.
Bottom line is I am glad I am least happier with my real life career than my WoW career choices so far. I guess that’s all that really matters.
Hmmm, maybe I should work on my fishing and cooking?
