WoWoW: Seasons Cheer or Geer

Quick column this week due to the holidays and all. First of all, seasons greetings to all. I hope you are having a good winter’s veil.

Second, maybe I am Scrooge, but most of the WoW winter’s veil quests leave me saying “ba humbug!” I do want to get into them I really do. I have done a couple. I admit I like throwing snowballs at people. I have baked some cookies. I went and freed the reindeer (though it was a long hike because I didn’t have any nearby flight paths). But all in all I don’t find these quests nearly as fun or compelling as the Halloween ones or for that matter the quests that kicked off the launch of Lich King.

Maybe I don’t like these quests for the same reason I don’t like Christmas shopping? The fact that I hate standing in lines. Ironforge is constantly mobbed with folks trying to get the quests. Plus on those occasions when I did try do “You’re a Mean One” and go kill the Abdominal Grinch there has always been a crowd nearby. So I haven’t done this quest yet. Funny I really enjoyed the Headless Horseman boss fight before this. I also enjoyed the brewfeast boss fight. I did those quests multiple times. I actually was using the horseman’s ring until recently. I guess part of my indifference to the Grinch quest is because I don’t find the rewards all that rewarding.

Also the cooking quests. I really want to do them. I figure I need to do them as I want to get my cooking and fishing both up to 450. Only so far I find myself getting easily distracted and steered to more exciting endeavors whenever I try to work on these two professions. I thought maybe with the holiday quests I would be more inspired to finally get my cooking and fishing up. I was wrong. Well mostly wrong, I did get them both up to around 150. I still plan to get them both up there, someday. (Someday soon! Maybe it will be my New WoW Year’s resolution…

Finally, what would the holidays be without gifts. Of course winter’s veil has it’s share of those. While so far I find the elf pet a bit useless I do like the little robotic car. It looks like these cars unlike many of the other seasonal gifts don’t expire in a few days which is nice. I like toys, even when the toys are part of another toy. Then we do have the fruitcake. After all it’s not the holidays without fruitcake. I have saw the folks at blizzard have made the fruitcake in the game just as useless at real life fruitcake. So my elf hat is off to them!
