WoW Thanks
by John Zakour

Since it’s that time of the year I thought I’d do a simple entry this week of WoW things I am grateful for.

  1. My son, it’s really fun co-adventuring with him.  It’s also really nice that he is playing “my” Death Knight for me.  This allows me to concentrate on getting my Mage to 80 while still having time for RL.
  2. My epic flyer. Yes, 5000g seemed like a lot at the time, a real lot but man it’s worth it.  It’s so fast and mobile far more efficient than taking one of the pubic birds. (Plus you never know where one of those things have been.)
  3. Specing Frost. When I was lower level I loved being a fire mage, something about the pure damage and power that was alluring.  For a while I experimented with being “elemental” mixing frost and fire.  I liked having blast wave to push back mobs.  Now I am heavy frost and love it for solo questing.  It has great survivability and also does really steady and fast damage.  Ice storm is a blast for doing fast AOE.  Plus my buddy the water elemental has saved my butt on more than one sticky occasion.  He’s great as no matter how confused I might be he always zeros in on the right target.
  4. My guild. Chatting with them while doing long bird rides (before I got cold weather flying) kept me from pulling out my hair.  Now that I am reaching (well in) middle age I need to do as much as possible to retain the hair I have.
  5. Scrolls of Stamina. Man they are simple and cheap but sometimes the mere couple of hundred extra HP they give me make the difference between life and a long walk back to my body.
  6. The references and wit the writers make. Gotta love the references to Monty Python, Star Wars and other cultural phenomenon that creep into WoW.  I even appreciate the potty humor.  (Yes there is quite literally potty humor.)  The humor is especially evident when you look at some of the descriptions of the many of the engineering items.  Or for that matter when you check out how some the engineering items work.  If you’ve ever used the “world enlarger” you know what I mean.
  7. The new herbalist buff. It’s so nice to get an extra heal in now and then.
  8. The change to evocation that returns hp along with mana.  (See above)
  9. The Argent Stand, if I need a place to grind a fast 100K xp this is where I go.  The mobs come fast and furious but go down easy with frost nova and ice storm and there are even guards around to help if things get tough.
  10. Worf’s voice. Nuff said.
