Heroes: Wire Inspired

By Lisa Fary

Someone at Heroes has been watching The Wire.

First Jamie Hector (Wire identity: Marlo) showed up as Knox, the fear feeder.  Now, Andre Royo (Wire identity: Bubbles) has appeared as Stephen Canfield, the vortex man.

If only Heroes had been as inspired by The Wire’s writing as they were by the casting.

Someone has also been watching:

Battlestar Galactica: Can we just graft Malcolm McDowell’s head onto Tricia Helfer’s body?  Nathan Petrelli’s own private Linderman is the same concept as Baltar’s own private Caprica Six.  But, you know, without the killer body or the urge to breed.

The Empire Strikes Back: Peter’s little tantrum in Sylar’s cell was stupidly similar to Luke’s story changing scene with Darth Vader.

Psycho: Sylar has a creepy mom complex.  I nearly expected him to kill mumsy, put on her black power suit, and take on her persona. With The Puppet Master back on the loose, Sylar may still have that chance.

The 4400: The whole power acquisition thing, but I already said that in a previous rant.

The Return of the King: Mohinder turning into Shelob.  He totally had a guy cocooned in his lab!  If she tries really hard, Maya can be his Gollum, luring tasty treats back to the lair.  That’s what is lab is becoming, you know. A lair.

I have to admit, after that initial dopey scene with Peter, Sylar, and Mama Petrelli, this episode did get pretty good.  Vortex Man was a great character with an awesome ability; I would have liked to have seen more of him.  After his actions with Vortex Man and Sylar, Noah Bennet will never have his Claire Bear back.

Even Mohinder finally became interesting!  And I usually hate Mohinder!  But, get him spinning webs around his victims and slop some goo on him, and suddenly, Mohinder is worth his weight in awesome.

Hiro and Ando. . . I just. . . they were. . . it’s like. . . . ugh.  I can’t even talk about this part yet.  All I can say is, if what we saw was real, then I hope you burn, Hiro.  I hope you burn.

Lisa Fary’s early exposure to classic Battlestar Galactica in 1979 is largely responsible for her lifelong interest in science fiction and her childhood ambition of being an intergalactic space cowgirl. She thinks diagramming sentences is a fun alternative to Sudoku.

  1. Whenver I see Mohinder I always am reminded of Cronenberg’s The Fly. Any minute now, he’s gonna turn into Jeff Goldblum. Maya will transform into Geena Davis, which will probably be the most interesting this she’s ever done.

Methinks Hiro got the evil one wrong on his little journey to the future. It’s totally him. I heart you Ando!

  2. I think I just like the idea of Mohinder spinning spiderwebs from his butt.
