@Wolfen: You're right. I misremembered. It took me a while to find the reference again. (I thought it was Mallozzi, but no.)

Script supervisor Alex Levine reported in his scifi.com blog that: "Of course David Hewlett and Michael Shanks happen to be the two fastest pseudo-science talkers in the business. Martin actually directed the second unit for part of these episodes, which including some scenes with these two actors. And try though he did, he simply could not slow them down. Case in point: the scripts for this two-parter were 64 and 65 pages long – a good five pages over our usual page number, and yet the episodes were ‘to time’."

So it was ten extra pages over the two episodes. Still, that's kind of impressive, seeing as they're only holding up a third of the plot.

@Robin ~ Mom read in TV guide that Gero wrote "six" extra pages for First Contact, which has me wondering -- since Mallozzi has said that they typically run longer on SGA scripts because of Hewlett, does that mean that he wrote an extra six on top of the "typical" extra pages? So more like 16 extra pages compared to a regular TV script? or was there really only six? ...

@Lysambre ~ I understand, and certainly don't blame you for feeling that way. Thanks for letting me know. :)

I'm just leaving you a short one this time, to tell you that I'm still reading you, but that due to a few of my issues with SGA at the moment (the love-triangle, the fact that they gave Keller more screentime than both Teyla and Ronon [and almost more than the 2 male leads], Keller herself and a few other things), I'd rather not comment.
My issues are not with you at all, I love reading your column (sp ?) but those issues right now are ruining part of my enjoyment of the show and I just don't want to bring this to you as I already did once.

"...given that the men have never exactly been friends..."

They never really interacted much at all on SG-1. McKay was pretty much always with Carter doing science-y things. In fact, I think they were only ever in two or three scenes together, and one of those was in an alternate timeline ('Moebius').

"Daniel, still ignoring the interruptions..."

Well, he's had a lot of practice at that with O'Neill and Vala.

"(And he calls him Rod! *Grin* I remember when Rodney complained that he could never get people to call him that ….)"

I'm thinking that maybe someone (maybe Sam) coached Daniel on that point, because he's never been big on nicknames or terms of endearment.

"A portable, impromptu elevator?? Wicked!!"

No kidding. I believe my exact words were, "Dude! Portable ring platform!" ...although the technology seems slightly different from the Ancient/Goa'uld variety we're used to.

"...“Talky McSays-a-lot” (is he related to Fumbles McStupid?)..."

Yes, they're distant cousins. ::snerk:: :D

"I think it’s interesting that Rodney is looking to Daniel for guidance."

I do, too. Ordinarily, he's bucking for power and control. In this situation, though, Daniel has clearly earned his respect. Plus, Daniel's been part of the Stargate program before it had that name (since he translated the word in the first place)... almost as long as McKay's beloved Samantha, even. I think Rodney has finally seen firsthand why everyone at the SGC respects Daniel so much and has jumped on the Jackson-is-awesome bandwagon. And you're right, McKay is definitely more comfortable as beta dog in dangerous offworld situations.

I really enjoyed seeing Daniel and Rodney interact and work together... even if it did require Gero to write an extra ten pages per episode. :D Can't wait for next week's conclusion.
