Dear Khek,

That was one of the excellent things for this ep, the wordless exchanges between the brothers. They have to speak in code, of course, because she doesn’t know she’s dead, and they don’t want to, er, “spook” her, ha!

And good point about the Greeleys, I can see how that would bug you. It might have been that the house and the land were rather more off the grid than on. For all that it’s 2007, and Greeley’s death was only 15 years prior, he certainly has rather old appliances and fixtures that looked 1950ish to me. Could be that the house was totally paid off, and you’ve seen old houses that look abandoned and nobody seems to pay it any mind, taxes or no taxes. And if someone doesn’t pay the bills, they just get shut off, no reason to send cops to a house in the middle of nowhere. I don’t know if that’s right, but that’s how I look at it.

Best Regards,

Sylvia

Dear Rosewood,

I don’t think that anyone actively dislikes this ep, it’s just that, in talking to fangirls and asking for favorites, this one never got mentioned. Maybe because it’s such a quiet ep as far as special effects go, I’m not sure. What I loved most about it was, like you say, the quintessentialness of Sam and Dean - the writers certainly had their character notes in front of them when they wrote this! Ms. Helfer did an excellent job, as well, and held her own with our beautiful boys on screen.

You’re welcome for the review! I too am trying to keep myself spoiler free till the 18th, but I’ve been spoiled a bit, just the basics, just the what, not the how. Hang in there!

Best Regards,

Dear CatsbyCat,

Yes, remedy! It’s definitely worth going back and to watch again, it really is quite subtle and good. I know that I watched it several times, wrote the review, and then watched it one more time, just for fun, it was that enjoyable.

Dear Robin,

I wasn’t spoiled either, and tend to be a bit oblivious, so the reveal was surprising to me as well. And even knowing the secret, going back to watch again doesn’t spoil the fun because so many details come into the light! I think Sam quite enjoyed being J-Lo Hewett as well, having a chance to do the right thing and with kindness and empathy. It just makes him happier. Thanks for enjoying my review!

Dear Tina,

Hey, thank you! There’s a lot of great hidden moments in this ep, like little gems scattered about, maybe more people like this ep than we actually know about.

Dear Joan,

Thank you! I do enjoy sharing my passion about Show, and getting your lovely feedback. I’ll keep writing reviews as long as they keep making eps! I’m all out of tea, though, time to go to the store.
The writers did such a terrific ep, it’s a rock solid story, with lots of lovely undertones. It makes me want to contact the writers and say, “more like this, please.” The brothers were SO themselves, so right on the money.

As for staying spoiler free, it’s hard! We have to work at it, because there’s tons of information everywhere. I have been a tad spoiled, just tidbits here and there to whet my appetite, all I know is that 09/18/2008 can’t come soon enough! I’ll be glued to my TV and then to my computer. Hang in there!

Best Regards,

I really loved this episode; it's actually BETTER on repeat viewings because you can see all the things going on with Sam and Dean under the surface. I especially love the way they talk to each other with looks and expressions...no actual words need be exchanged with the Winchester brothers!

My one stumbling block with this episode is that the Greeleys fell off the face of the earth and no one noticed. Really? The bank didn't repossess the house because of back taxes? No one got curious when the electric and phone bills weren't paid? No one noticed that Mrs. Farmer Greeley was missing and sent the cops to the house to investigate? I could have bought it pre-1980, but in 1992? The age of computers? Not really. (As you can tell, this bothers me quite a bit.)

Still, I thought it was a great episode.

To me Tricia Helfer was very not-Six as Molly. Maybe that's why people didn't like it? They wanted more platinum sexy Six?

I always watch this episode whenever I re-watch Season 2, so I'm not sure why anyone dislikes this. Maybe it gets overlooked since it doesn't advance the larger Season 2 story? I give it a solid A- as an episode for all the reasons you covered. It's a small story - just one night - but it shows us the quintessential Sam and Dean doing what they do best.

The first time I watched this, I was wondering why Dean was so cold to Molly, but once the secret is revealed (and I didn't see it coming before the reveal), Dean was completely consistent with his character (as was Sam).

Thanks for the reviews! They help keep me distracted and away from reading spoilers (still spoiler free at only 9 days to go!)

Just ghosts and two brothers doing their job. And some days, that’s all you need, really.
Ain't that the truth!

And you know, reading this review, I've realised that I've only seen this episode twice. Now, to a mere mortal this may seem more than sufficient, but for a dyed-in-the-wool Sam'n'Dean girl this won't do at all! Guess I'll need to remedy that...

I'm a big fan of this ep, too, and your wonderful review. I loved the different ways the boys treated Molly, and while lots of fans claim they knew she was a ghost from the start, I didn't. I wasn't spoiled, nor did I suspect, so when it was revealed, I was genuinely surprised, just like in SIXTH SENSE with the Bruce Willis reveal. I cried when she "went into the light," and was glad the boys had a chance to do what whats-'er-name on Ghost Whisperer is always doing. I could so easily see Sam doing that, but he's prettier than that show's lead. Love, Robin

Dear Sylvia

I LOVED this episode! You are right about several things. It was a nice change of pace. I must say it had a few nice twists that I have to admit I didn't see coming. The ending was bittersweet and heartbreaking. I thought Tricia had good chemistry with Jensen and Jared.

And, yes, it didn't get a lot of fan press, which is really sad. It was a quiet episode. It felt authentic. I like when the writer's move in a different direction. It prevents the show from becoming stale or predictable.
Now, given that this show is Supernatural, I don't believe it could ever be boring or predictable but I like when they switch things up. It makes me a happy fan.

We are getting closer to the season premiere. I am sitting on pins and needles already. I fully intend to stay spoiler free!

Take care
Joan

PS. Thanks again for bringing this show to life with your reviews. I enjoy sharing time with you every Tuesday morning. You are as passionate about this show as I am and that makes reading your reviews so enjoyable.

I LOVED this episode! You are right about several things. It was a nice change of pace. I must say it had a few nice twists that I have to admit I didn’t see coming. The ending was bittersweet and heartbreaking. I thought Tricia had good chemistry with Jensen and Jared.

And, yes, it didn’t get a lot of fan press, which is really sad. It was a quiet episode. It felt authentic. I like when the writer’s move in a different direction. It prevents the show from becoming stale or predictable.
Now, given that this show is Supernatural, I don’t believe it could ever be boring or predictable but I like when they switch things up. It makes me a happy fan.

We are getting closer to the season premiere. I am sitting on pins and needles already. I fully intend to stay spoiler free!

Take care
Joan
