LOST 4.12 – There’s No Place Like Home, Part 1

By Teresa Jusino

OK, is it me, or is Aaron the BIGGEST BABY EVER?! Seriously, he must get ALL the mangoes on the island. He’s HUGE! Look at him…

Aaron Baby Aaron

Isn’t he only supposed to be a couple of weeks old?! He’s practically ready for nursery school already! That’s all I could think about as I watched Kate hold him this week. This baby is enormous!

Anyway, sorry for the delay on writing about Episode 12 of the season, “There’s No Place Like Home – Part 1”. I’ve had a lot going on this past week, including houseguests and a great play I’m in here in NYC! (SHAMELESS PLUG) Also, as this is Part 1 of a two-part episode, I think I’ll review both parts in one, glorious mega-review after the season finale.

But, just to tide you over since I know you await my opinions on pins and needles every week, here are a couple of things I thought about this episode. I’ll go into more detail next time, but feel free to discuss!

** Seriously, Aaron is f%!@ing huge. Meanwhile, Walt looks like he should have a wife and kids by now… What are they feeding these kids on this island?! Was that the mission of the Dharma Initiative?! MUTANT SUPERCHILDREN?!

** The opening of this episode was actually emotional for me! I hadn’t fully taken into account just how difficult and strange it would be to come back to civilization after having been on an island so long. That moment when the Oceanic Six gets off the plane to be greeted by their families almost made me cry, as did Kate not having any family to welcome her. It was the first time in a long time that I was on her side.

** Just when I think I can’t love Sun anymore, she does something else that makes me love her more! Buying a controlling share of her father’s company with her settlement money?! Awesome. That scene between her and her dad was great.

** Hurley’s “welcome back” party being island themed?! Oh, Hurley’s mom…

** WHY THE FAKE STORY ABOUT THEIR RESCUE?! Why can no one know what actually happened on the island?! That’s really the big mystery on the show right now. That, and Jacob.

** The odometer on Hurley’s car reading 4815162342?! OMG. That’s just messed up.

** You know what else is messed up? Finding out at your dad’s memorial service that your fellow survivor who disappeared is actually your half sister, making that big, fat baby your nephew. Sorry, Jack.

    “The baby is enormous!”

He is, but there are rules in Hollywood that say any baby used for filming has to be at least three months old. ER got around that restriction by spending a lot of money to have an anamatronic premie built, but it would have been cost-prohibitive for Lost, since the baby was only in a few episodes.

As for the rest… Yeah, I feel badly for the Oceanic Six, too. I think their motivation for the cover story is to protect the rest of the crash survivors. The battle between Dharma and Whitmore seems to be putting them in a really sticky situation. I don’t know what’s going to go wrong that it prevents those who want to leave from doing so, but I’m sure it won’t be good.

Heh. Yeah, I know that they can’t use actual newborns for filming. I just figured they could pick a baby that wasn’t quite…so…robust. :) Just like, yes, I know the actor playing Walt must have gone through puberty. It was just funny when Michael finally found him, and he looked like he was ready to go to college! :)
