Presidential Geek Survey Diary – Day 304

For the Clinton campaign, quote-unquote experts are like Iowa, South Carolina and Maryland – they don’t matter if they’re not on her side, and they can quote-unquote suck it.

The quote-unquote experts who don’t matter are the quote-unquote experts who say that the proposed gas tax holiday supported by Senator Clinton is a bad idea, and nigh stupid.

The quote-unquote experts say that, if passed, the gas tax holiday would not lower prices at the pump and stations would probably continue charging what they’re charging.

Also, the gas tax funds such projects as road construction and repairs. It helps fund the repair of bridges. It helps pay for workers to carry out construction and repairs on said roads and bridges.

So, not only would the gas tax holiday interrupt the funding for the infrastructure, it would also result in an even greater loss of jobs. Oh, and an extra $11 billion to the national deficit.

But, Clinton is not backing down on this. Clinton spokesperson Howard Wolfson said:

“There are times that a president will take a position that a broad support of quote-unquote experts agree with. And there are times they will take a position that quote-unquote experts do not agree with.”

Hmmm. Isn’t that how we wound up in Iraq?

Clinton strategist Geoff Carin argues that the gas tax holiday will result in driver savings:

“Our calculation is that for the average driver it would save 70 dollars.”

70 dollars over what, Geoff? The entire gas tax holiday? That comes out to $5.38 of savings per week over the course of the proposed gas tax holiday.

$5.38 won’t even get you into the movie theater to see Iron Man tomorrow.
