Well said, Brian.

I never got into D&D itself, but some friends and I had a nice Firefly RPG going for the past year. It was fun! Since half of us were new to the whole RPG thing, our GM decided to adapt it for Fudge rules rather than the more D&D style in the book, so it was less about numbers and more like improv drama. And I, too, was struck with the urge to write a few stories about my character and our whole plucky crew.

And if anyone needs more evidence that it's not evil, one of my favorite bloggers Joseph Mallozzi (writer/executive producer on Stargate: Atlantis) recently revealed that he played an awful lot of D&D in his younger days, and it really helped hone his storytelling skills. See? Nerd creativity can be fun and lucrative! :)
