Presidential Geek Survey Diary – Day 303

The RNC wants to sue the DNC for false advertising. False advertising? In politics? No freakin’ way!

The DNC’s new anti-McCain ad, “100 Years” shows Undead Grampers’ town hall exchange in which he said he’d be fine with staying in Iraq for 100 years and contrasts that with violent footage from our occupation.

The RNC says that the ad is “maliciously false”, “deliberately misleading”, and illegal.

Yep. Illegal.

Since the DNC ad doesn’t include McCain’s condition for being in Iraq for 100 years (“. . . as long as Americans are not being injured… harmed or killed…. It’s fine with me”), the ad is a “willful misrepresentation” of Undead Grampers and, as such, is illegal.

The GOP is laying a heavy guilt trip on TV stations not to air the ad, and according to The Huffington Post, is considering legal action to stop the ad from airing. To which DNC Chairman Howard Dead said:

“Let them do it. I understand the RNC thinks it’s illegal to criticize John McCain.”

This comes shortly after a contested North Carolina RNC ad which did a lot of contorting to represent the beliefs of Reverend Wright as the beliefs of Barack Obama. Wright was declared fair political game and the ad aired.

Shouldn’t the same consideration be extended toward John McCain? If Barack Obama’s every acquaintance and every movement executed without wearing a flag lapel pin is up for political exploitation, so shouldn’t Undead Grampers’ senior moments?
