Lack of direct focus on our heros? In more ways than one, eh? (In that the ep wasn’t about the boys, plus the hand held cams weren’t always in focus, ha ha.) I’m almost positive that the next ep will be dark. Dire. Angsty. That’s the way Kripke has worked up till now. He’s not, over the long haul, dissapointed me yet. I’ve got that tatoo, you know.

The whole Grand Canyon idea…I think it’s far more than a destination, I really do. I’m sure I’m not alone in this. Maybe Kripke didn’t originally intend it to become anything other than a vacation spot for the boys, but it certainly has developed into a symbol for their heart’s desire. Which, in this case, means rest for Dean. Some sort of respite. Time alone with Sam, without either one of them in danger.

Oh the clothes!! Don’t get me started. If they went to the Grand Canyon, and it’s anywhere near summertime, it’ll be really hot. That’ll call for shorts and tank tops, even if Dean doesn’t do either. If they filmed that, I’d be happy. You?

Wow, thank you for the lovely compliment! Yeah, the reviews started out as being just simple reviews…I think they’ve morphed, and I’ll just as happily call them essays too!

Do you mean that you’ve not yet seen this ep? I hope I’ve not spoiled it for you. Alas, there is no towel for Dean to march around in. But let me assure you, from the little I’ve seen? It’s not a question of IF his chest is chiseled, it’s a question of HOW.

Hey, thank you! Yeah, this was a fun episode, and plenty of fans enjoyed it all on its own, but I think the general expectation for the first ep out of the can after the hiatus was a little different. But heck, we’re lucky to get anything at all, right?

I’m sorry you were dissapointed by this ep. I was too, a little; I had to dig to find something to like about it. Plus, I wasn’t kidding when I said I was spoiled. After Dream a Little Dream and Mystery Spot, I had very high expectations. It isn’t Show’s fault (or is it?) that it’s so good that I continually expect all these things.

Plus, if you can find the sides, go and read them now that you’ve seen the ep. I think they will add some needed context. (Basically, the sides indicate that John had once tried to stay in the Morton House, but wasn’t able to last through the night. The Morton House is the smack daddy of haunted houses. For Dean, it was something he wanted to be able to master, to do something his dad couldn’t do.)

I can’t say enough about the Grand Canyon line and my imaginary “thumbs” scene. Both of them are so telling, even if one of them never happened. I love the idea that Sam would totally give into Dean’s wishes, and that the Grand Canyon line implies the way in which Dean convinced him.

At any rate, the next ep is tomorrow! Buckle up, I think it’s going to get bumpy from here!

“Plus I am mollified because what Show has done in the past is to produce one or two silly eps and then follow this up by several heartbreakers.” That’s exactly why I allowed myself to enjoy this one, despite the lack of direct focus on our heroes. I’m afraid of what’s next.

Your insights are so powerful! You really KNOW these guys, and I always feel that I know them better, too, after I read your recaps.

“To me, it echoes the line at the end of Casa Blanca, making me feel that the Grand Canyon holds the same significance to Sam and Dean as Paris does to Rick and Ilsa, but without the sex.” Yeah. I like the way your mind works, woman.

And for sure, Show, what’s with all the layers of clothing? A towel, boxers, bike shorts, whatever; would that be too much to ask? Or wearing nothing at all with just a cartoon skull (a large one, natch) to cover the naughty bits We need to further inspect all of that glorious chiseledness, dammit!

I just wanted to say, that, ever since I’ve joined this site, one of the main things I look forward to is your weekly Supernatural reviews? Essays? They read to me like essays – wonderful, amazing essays.

This one, just as amazing as the last, and the one previous to that, and I cannot thank you enough, as this essay, now gives me something to look forward to, when the Aussie networks get up, off their backsides and finally start airing season 3.

And hey, Dean-in-a-Towel, would give us all ample opportunity to see if his chest really is chiseled

I wanted to start off my saying thanks for your comments about my morning coffee. They made me smile. My Tuesday’s mornings aren’t complete without my coffee and your Supernatural reviews.

It saddens me to say this was honestly the first episode that really disappointed me. Yes, there were some good scenes but after such a long time between new episodes I wanted more Dean and Sam. I got appetizers but I what I really wanted was a seven course dinner!

The ‘Grand Canyon’ comment got to me. It really did. And, the scene where Dean and Sam were safe….made my heart ache and swell at the same time because it felt familiar and comforting. And, yes… I do hope Dean wiped the blood from Sam’s face with his thumbs.

I do hope you are right about the final three episodes being emotional and gut wrenching because Kripe likes to do that to us. He gives a brief respite with a lighter episode and then ‘WHAM’ he throws curve balls and angst and heart breaking emotional episodes at us which rock us to the core.

I know my heart will never be the same but it is what I want and it is what I need.
