John McCain honored the death of Martin Luther King, Jr. by apologizing for not initially supporting MLK Day and getting booed.
While Undead Grampers didn’t support MLK Day during his first Congressional term in 1983, he did support the same referendum in Arizona in 1992. The state only relented and recognized the holiday because it meant the NFL would hold Super Bowl XXVII in Phoenix.

This shouldn’t be too surprising considering Southern Arizona schools close down for a freakin’ rodeo.
At least we can take heart that Arizona wasn’t the last state to recognize MLK Day as a holiday – that honor goes to South Carolina, which finally recognized the holiday in 2000.
But, back to Undead Grampers. Today he said:
“We can be slow as well to give greatness its due, a mistake I made myself long ago when I voted against a federal holiday in memory of Dr. King. I was wrong . . . We can all be a little late sometimes in doing the right thing, and Dr. King understood this about his fellow Americans.”
It’s a nice sentiment, but marred by image of an African-American man holding an umbrella over Undead Grampers’ head.
Hello? Undead Grampers’ handlers? In the interest of tact on THIS day, couldn’t you have found a white aid to hold an umbrella over Undead Grampers’ head?
