"I have not seen Sanctuary yet. *sigh* You have to pay to see it now, right — it’s not free anymore? Methinks I will wait until it airs on Sci Fi"

As far as I know, the first three or four... episodelets? acts? segments?... are still up on YouTube. They're about 10-15 minutes each and introduce the three main characters, a few secondary ones, and gives a pretty nice overview of the world they live in. I haven't seen anything beyond that ('cause I'm poor too), but I'm excited to see what SciFi does with the concept. I just hope Amanda, Damian, and Martin can keep most of the creative control over their baby.

Robin said: To paraphrase a director I admire, God bless Jason Momoa and his business. That little interchange between Ronon and McKay was so delightful it distracted me from the Teyla-Sheppard conversation, and I almost missed what they were talking about entirely.

Ditto here as well. Once I realized they were still looking at each other I started laughing and totally missed whatever it was John and Teyla were saying.

Now, I could see him getting a bit self-conscious for a while after the fact, despite his telling them it’s a medical issue, but I think any effort to diet (much less get an eating disorder) would last about three seconds. XD

*nods* yeah I have to admit I could see that possibility to. I think the problem is that the fics I end up reading take it to such extremes that I just don't want to read ANY fics on the subject at all because I don't trust the writers to not take it to those extremes. And part of the problem is that I've got five previous fandoms with the same kinds of extremes so by this point I have very little tolerance for fics that try to explore the more angsty results of the teasing Rodney gets. Plus what I really want to see is Rodney sticking up for HIMSELF, not using Carson to do it for him... *shrug* Oh well... people are going to write what they want to write no matter what.

There were several moments when he really reminded me of Ba’al from the later seasons of SG-1. And, given that the episode was written by Joe Mallozzi (Ba’al’s self-proclaimed biggest fan), it’s not surprising that he’s giving Todd some individuality by integrating some Ba’al-esque tendancies into his personality.

Hmmm. I guess I can see that, although I like Todd more than Ba'al, and think Ba'al actually is evil (like when he tortured Jack) and honourless, unlike Todd.

Plus, Chris Heyerdal has proven that he can be exceptionally creepy-yet-charming with his portrayal of John Druid in Sanctuary.

"Behind them, while they talk, Rodney and Ronon exchange looks, Rodney bearing a “Why must you torment me?” expression, shaking his head, while Ronon grins faintly. I love when they have things going on subtly in the background like that!"

"Okay, is it just me, or is Todd really hot in this episode?"

Nah, I didn't think of the scene in the mess hall as a fat joke -- I saw it as a "how self-centered can the man be, not being so worried that he feels sick to his stomach and can't eat, eating like there's nothing wrong" not "Look at him binge-eating again". Happily, I haven't noted any of David's fans complaining about the scene either. :)

And yeah, I don't think Rodney becoming anorexic makes any sense simply because it's really damn hard to starve oneself when one is hypo -- you're body won't let you! Even simple dieting is really tough -- you can't really eat a lot less unless you're fine with passing out, heh. The best you can do is eat stuff that's low in fat .... Now, I could see him getting a bit self-conscious for a while after the fact, despite his telling them it's a medical issue, but I think any effort to diet (much less get an eating disorder) would last about three seconds.
let me also make something else clear - while I agree that the jokes in Tao of Rodney went to far that doesn't actually mean I believe for a second Rodney would go crying to Carson about it and/or actually develop a eating disorder because of those comments - which is usually what happens in fics. Seriously did people not notice how Rodney went right up to the others and yelled at them about how he has to eat because he's hypoglycemic? He doesn't strike me as the kind of person who'd stop eating for anything or anyone just because comments were made about how much he was eating or that he might get fat... nor does he strike me as the kind of person who'd go crying to Carson because people were being mean but that's another issue all together.

CARSON! / I LOVED this episode, as evidence by my three page commentary on my site! :O) I think even though I knew Carson would show up in the last few minutes I was having fun listing all the little tidbits throughout the episode that hinted at Carson being involved. Now we just have to wait and see if this is the real Carson. I'm going to see if I can avoid spoilers this time about who or what Carson is until Friday.

I gotta ask you something - are the so called "fat jokes" REALLY a problem? People keep complaining about them and I even responded to someone complaining on Joe's Blog but I wanted to check and see if maybe it was an issue you noticed too. I'm not sure if it's just people being oversensitive or if it's a concern the same way using medical issues as a joke ends up being.

I mean really even in Kindred I don't see it as a "fat Joke" but the usual cliche of someone eating at a "bad time" and someone else commenting on "how can you eat at a time like this?" The only time I've really noticed the fat thing being pushed was in Tao of Rodney and THAT I agree went to far - especially in the cafeteria scene when Rodney is eating (and it's all healthy food) - that scene really didn't make a whole lot of sense other than to have Rodney show some more of his growing powers. But I haven't heard anything else that directly relates to Rodney being "fat".

I mean to me it's pretty obvious if you look at Rodney he's NOT fat at all. (He - well really David - has gained some weight since the start of the serious however - even my mother noticed that one and she can't stand the show, but still not fat). Also I don't get the whole thing where people say that calling Rodney fat also insults David - not when David has made plenty of jokes on his OWN about how much he eats on the set and that he's gained weight! David is all for self mocking humor and I have a feeling that a lot of the picking on Rodney gets comes from David's ideas as much as the writers.

I guess I just don't see the fat jokes, because other than "Tao of Rodney" no one has actually said anything about him being fat. Even in Trio it sounded like it was about being out of shape (which he IS) not being fat.

Anyway awesome review as always and definitely looking forward to part two of the episode no matter what happens! CARSON CARSON CARSON CARSON!
